Engineering Aide

Description: The Department of Public Works is responsible for the physical

upkeep and maintenance of all properties and roadways belonging to the City

of Mount Vernon. The department has the additional responsibility of

maintaining all services relating to sewers, stormwater management,

sanitation, highway maintenance, sidewalks, street lighting, parks and

traffic signalization. There are approximately ninety-six (96) miles of

local highway, one hundred eighty (180) miles of sidewalk and fifteen (15)

bridges that are maintained in the City of Mount Vernon. The department

also oversees the construction, alteration, repair and maintenance of

bridges belong to the city.

Responsibilities:

. Take off quantities for road resurfacing and utilities involved. Estimate

cost for assisting team in preparation of budget proposals.

. Review standard specifications and drawings to identify the items

involved in replacement of old catch basins within the city.

. Preliminary engineering experience including stormwater drains and sewer

lines.

. Oversee sidewalk construction to ensure compliance with the code of city

of Mount Vernon.

. Review engineering reports and drawings submitted by consultants and

contractors to develop an understanding of various projects within the

city.

building with a floor area of approximately 100,000 square feet.

additional facilities to a nursing home. Carried out PLA feasibility

studies with estimates, schedules, safety plan, procurement and logistics

plan for project controls.

for a 30 storey building in accordance with the regulations of New York
