steam generator was of IHI single drum, natural-

circulation type, and consisted of water-cooled

furnace, superheater, reheater and economizer. A

balanced draft system consisted of two air and gas

trains. The boiler was equipped with five vertical-

type pulverizers. The 725 megawatt (MW) steam turbine

was furnished by Toshiba. The air quality control

system (AQCS) was furnished by Alstrom.

Responsibilities included supervising installation of

the distributed control system (DCS) cabinets and

work stations, and initial power up and

software/program loading. Responsible for functional

testing, control logic verification, owner interface,

completion of controls punch list items, input/output

(I/O) checkout, DCS setup and troubleshooting, and

balance of plant (BOP) control valve, chemical feed,

balanced draft, and load control tuning. Also

responsible for extensive DCS Emerson Ovation as-

built and corrective programming logic and graphics

for feedwater, steam extraction, condensate,

scrubber, fly ash, bottom ash, interfaces with

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) protective

relays, continuous emissions monitoring system (CEMS)

interface, and Eaton motor controls using Profibus.

Other foreign device programmable logic controls

(PLC) interfaces with water treatment, condensate

polisher, water cannon, fly ash, and AQCS. The DCS

was Ovation 3.2, utilizing the latest technology of

Nebraska Power Project, Unit 2; Omaha Public Power

Assisted with startup, checkout and commissioning of

a new 730 megawatt (MW) coal fired power plant. The

Distributed Control System (DCS) Controls Upgrade

Controls Engineer. Black & Veatch. Assisted in

construction, startup, and checkout of new DCS

controls upgrade, consisting of combustion controls

over four existing steam boilers supplying steam to

three existing steam turbines. Responsible for burner

management system (BMS) and balance-of-plant system

functioning, loop checkout, controls logic

verification, and direction of retrofit construction.

including one new Mark V, a new burner management

system (BMS) on a pulverized coal fired boiler, and

DCS interface to an existing Forney AFS-1000BMS.
