PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
JOHN HANCOCK MANULIFE, Boston, MA 1996 - 2010
Vice President, National Director of Special Markets-Boston
Successfully created and managed what many broker/dealer relationships
referred to as the current "gold standard" of advanced technical support
for financial advisors.
Initiated, oversaw, and implemented, numerous innovative, advanced sales
ideas and concepts.
Created and continually developed numerous new advanced CE courses for
financial advisors as well as FINRA approved public presentations.
Hired, developed one of the most talented, knowledgeable and highly
respected group of attorney support personnel in the financial services
industry today (still with the company).
Built the first "client friendly", Stretch IRA illustration system which
has been copied by competitors and is still in use today. Convinced senior
management to become the first company in the industry to successfully
market the concept of "Stretch" with N/Q variable annuities.
Was successful in convincing the company to adopt the industry's first
restricted beneficiary program (which continues as a proven, extremely
vital and important marketing tool today) in both the variable annuity and
mutual fund divisions.
Initiated and generated a "symbiotic" working relationship between the
variable annuity and mutual fund divisions to share personnel, marketing
concepts and materials, wholesalers meetings, etc as well as the
utilization of Special Markets time and personnel. Special Markets
Attorneys and I have had several articles published in national industry
periodicals.
NAP PARTNER-COLLEGE LIFE GROUP, Austin, TX 1990 - 1996
President and National Marketing Director
Helped build and directed sales for one of the nation's largest independent
marketing firms that focused on combining Section 125 Cafeteria Plans with
401(k)'s, 403(b)'s and 457's.
Initiated numerous successful national campaigns, using continuing
education, to bring the program to financial advisors across the country.
National sales grew rapidly and ultimately expanded to almost every state
including Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.
Successfully moved the company from one with plans that only provided fixed
income investment options to successfully include more market sensitive
products such as mutual funds, variable annuities, etc.
Oversaw the necessary overhaul of the firm's in-house plan Administration
department which was necessary for the program to remain competitive. This
was critical in order to continue to provide quality service due to the
rapid expansion of new sales.
