SELECT ACCOMPLISMENTS
. Lead project engineer coordinating the electrical, instrumentation and
controls engineering disciplines during a 3 year $115M plant expansion
project. Through proactive steering efforts, the project had tracked and
was completed on budget.
. Developed site guidelines for safety instrumented systems to ensure all
aspects, cradle to grave, are optimally implemented and managed.
Successfully secured guideline buy in and captured improvements from
operations, reliability, management and 2 other plants within NOVA. At
the Moore plant, over 70 safety instrumented functions where successfully
implemented across 6 different projects using these guidelines.
. Design Lead on a $2M dollar project to upgrade 108 obsolete gas detectors
and a shutdown/monitoring system for an entire plant. Devised a plan to
do field work with the plant running, thereby completing all gas
detectors a year ahead of schedule and under budget.
. Key team member developing capital solutions to improve power supply
reliability to 3 plants. Team efforts resulted in a large 230KV
reliability project being implemented in partnership with Hydro One that
greatly improved power reliability to 2 plants.
. Design lead on 3 major PLC upgrade projects ($1.7M) for a LDPE unit. All
3 projects where successfully installed during a shutdown on budget and
under a tight timeline. A major achievement was developing logic
narratives and drawings for an entire LDPE unit. These documentation
practices are being applied to the entire site.
. Won support for an $835K project (completed on budget) to replace high
"arc flash" risk switchgear. Completed short circuit, coordination and
arc flash studies for 3 plants with recommendations for equipment, PPE
and procedural changes to improve safety and reliability. Avoided the
construction of 3 remote switch projects (?$250K) at 3 plants by
promoting a portable switch that allows operators to switch any
switchgear from a safe distance.
. Lead a major troubleshooting effort for a 2500HP VFD. Power savings with
the unit online are ? $329K/year. The drive was idle for 3 years due to
unstable operation.
. Created protection and control operational diagrams to train technical
staff on protection and control systems for a 230KV/15KV substation.
Leveraged this training with a design team to upgrade several protection
relays and to implement a site wide SCADA.
. Avoided ? $550K of electrical upgrades deemed necessary by the ESA by
changing the electrical area classification in a reactor cell from C1D1
to C1D2. It was proved with actuarial fugitive emission data that a C1D2
classification was safe and meets regulatory requirements.
. Managed all electrical capital and plant support design work for a plant
turnaround. Lead a reliability team in developing a procedure and
implementation plan to overhaul a 200 ton 1100HP motor for the
turnaround. All electrical projects completed within time and budget.
. Designed and installed 2 UPS systems with diesel backup to improve site
power reliability and wrote a corporate wide design standard capturing
project insight.
