Senior professional position responsible for managing projects under two
mine regulatory programs (Coal and Non-Coal) in the Land Quality Division.
Duties included: technical reviews for complex permitting actions, plan of
operations, reclamation, bonding and other environmental factors concerning
overburden, hydrology, native disturbance and contamination of soils and
groundwater.
Land and Water Restoration Consultant 1993-2005
Fishtail, Mt.
Environmental and ecological services specializing in site assessments,
conservation planning, and restoration of disturbed land and stream banks.
Projects include:
point and non-point pollution abatement concerning water quality;
revegetation plans; habitat development; environmental site assessments;
wetland delineations, wildlife assessments, floodplain assessments;
permitting for subdivisions, septic systems, 310 permits, 404 permits, and
beneficial water use.

Projects included: Stillwater Mine Reclamation Program where 65 acres were
reclaimed and a water quality program initiated; Reclamation for the Bureau
of Abandoned Mines; remediation of abandoned oil wells owned by Sinclair
Oil; Land restoration of the Smith Mine, Bearcreek Montana.
Soil Conservation Service (NRCS) Soil Conservationist 1982-
1986
Joliet, Mt.
Conservation Planner- assisting farmers and ranchers with alternative
conservation practices and management for cropland, pastureland, rangeland,
and forestland.
Duties included developing long-term contracts and plans along with
engineering work relating to the design and layout of the conservation
practice. Examples of projects installed: irrigation pipelines; sprinkler
systems; land leveling; water control structures; dams; windbreaks;
artesian wells; drainage systems; concrete ditches, spring developments;
and stream bank stabilization.
Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife, & Parks Fisheries Tech
1979-1981
Kalispell/Red Lodge, Mt.
Stream-Fisheries management and research for the Flathead River Drainage
Project, Great Bear Wilderness, Beartooth-Absaroka Wilderness, and various
rivers and reservoirs throughout Montana. Work entailed high mountain lake
surveys, stream surveys, fish and insect population studies; habitat
research, water quality data, and environmental assessment field research
associated with proposed mining activities.
Colorado Division of Wildlife Wildlife Technician 1976-
1977
Meeker/Montrose, Co.
Watershed management and research emphasizing the riparian zones associated
with grazing and mining activities. Numerous hydrological and biological
inventories, water quality data, and wildlife habitat data were compiled
for an environmental assessment for the Bureau of Land Management. A
report was written along with recommendations.
Other duties performed included stream surveys, high mountain lake surveys,
aerial photography via helicopters, water chemistry, mapping, and technical
reports.
Additional Experience
Montana Board of Realty Regulation: Certified instructor for continuing
education for real estate agents. Approved for teaching courses in: Land
Use Planning; Water Law; Conservation Issues; Agricultural Issues;
Environmental Issues.
Conservation Training: Montana Conservation Corps, Red Lodge, Mt.
Trained summer crews for trail work, revegetation, and erosion control
projects.
Native Plants: Native Plant Society, Red Lodge, Mt.
Workshops involving the basics of using native plants, grasses, and
wildflowers to revegetate disturbed areas, create wildlife habitat, and to
enhance riparian areas.
Water Issues and Growth Policies: Carbon County Resource Council and

Grant Writing: Contracted by the Dept. of Natural Resources to develop a

grant guidebook for various state and federal funding sources and
