April 2010 - November 2010
McCoy Grain Company - General manager - Hired to make company more
profitable. Represent McCoy with customer and community relationships,
create and develop more efficiencies and manage grain origination and grain
merchandising. Instituted and trained basis marketing strategies to
employees to remove flat price marketing that was being used. Negotiated
with grain buyers on selling basis levels and sales. Negotiated with
producers on contact shortfalls and origination. Managed grain handling
for aeration, turning, blending to stay in tune with grain heating and
infestations. Created space and holding the wheat by purchasing a bagging
system which increased our storage capacity of wheat which when sold paid
for the all of the costs and put a profit margin of $1.00 on McCoy's bottom
line. Worked directly with board of directors to give them information on
the direction McCoy grain has taken. Informed them of efficiencies,
profitability, and grain marketing improvements. Created and implemented
company web page used for marketing and customer relations. Changed quote
board systems which helped in facilitating cash bids to customers as they
called. Worked with bankers on borrowing base to make it more
representative of grain company ownership.
June 2008 - November 2009
WB Johnston Enterprises - Grain controller - Major role in converting
antiquated grain system into agris grain accounting package. Grain
controller for 24 country elevators and 2 grain rail load out facilities.
Using Agris software I managed grain discounts/premiums. Assisted users
with day to day processing issues. Complete month end processing to
include but not limited to mark to market of contracts, inventory
valuation, balancing broker (futures and options) accounts to gl and
writing out reports to make accrual entries for month end. Month end
general ledger entries and balancing. Final settlement approval processing.
Assist grain merchandisers with risk management.
July 1999 - May 2008
Greenway Cooperative Services - Ag & Cooperative Business analyst II -
Purchased and sold propane and petroleum tankers. Assisted with company
safety program and training. Developed, built and put into production
software that enabled drivers to maintain propane tanks and customers
accounts receivable. Fully developed and partially programmed a software
(vb.net) solution for creating and capturing sales from a laptop on a
truck. Redefined convenience store department structure to capture sales
on gasboy system for easier data interpretation of daily reports and
financials. Re-programmed gasboy to process (10 c-store, 2 unattended)
sales files. Reorganized the accounts payable office to conduct day to day
business more efficiently. Reorganized customer feed mill processing after
a elevator/feed mill fire. Resolved and assisted in gross margin issues at
month end on the balance sheet/profit loss statements. Instituted, tested
and implemented mergers and partnerships with outside companies.
Calculated yearly patronage with general manager and auditors to present to
the board. Developed strategies to select software, presentations to
department heads and final selection of new software to handle all of
Greenway business processing. Provided data, trained 150 employees in all
aspects of new software (agronomy, feed mill, c store, grain, propane and
petroleum).
June 1998 - July 1999
Puzzles Plus Fun Shop - Accountant - Setup administrative support system
for filing, payroll, sales packet processing and bad debt collection.
Reconciled bank statements monthly. Processed accounts payable, calculated
by hand bi-weekly payroll for 40+ employees (3 states). Created complex
spreadsheet for owner to generate monthly financial statements. Prepared
monthly, quarterly and yearly federal, state and local income and payroll
taxes for independent stores. Migrated all hand written processes into a
peachtree software system.
June 1997 - June 1998
PCL Construction - Accountant - Hired through Robert Half on temporary
basis after one week they hired me on permanently. Overhead district
accountant running the accounts payable checks in excess of 1 million
dollars weekly. Calculated and submitted sales and use tax monthly and
quarterly for 15 states. Travel and budgeting account reconciliations.
Assisted other accountants with balancing customer account files.
August 1995 - June 1997 - Went to College working on my accounting degree
worked full time in grocery store at night while raising 4 children.
June 1990 - April 1995
M and M Delivery Service, Inc. - Owner/Operator - A start up business with
a pickup truck and contract with Big Sur water beds to do delivery and
setup of water beds and furniture. Working with brother-in-law scheduled
daily deliveries with customers every night. Resolved customer complaints,
responsible for all of the administrative duties such as payroll, accounts
payable, insurances and all other aspects of a small business. After
establishing a marketing strategy I was able to expand customer base by
gaining additional relationships with additional furniture, appliance and
stereo stores. The company grew from two employees to anywhere from seven
to ten at any given time over five year period.
September 1974 - October 1978 and October 1979 - April 1990
United States Army - Staff Sergeant - Starting out my career as private in
basis training at
Ft. Knox, Kentucky I moved on to advanced individual training for tanks. I
spent thirteen years in the military traveling to Korea, Europe, California
and many other places to carry out my duties. I attained the rank of Staff
Sergeant and platoon sergeant responsible for five tanks and thirty platoon
members. Conducted training for tank fire control systems and did
professional level counseling classes for effective communications in the
leadership role that I played. On several occasions I had the battalion
high tank or high tank platoon. I have received many awards and
commendations for meritorious service and commitment.
