Manager of Open System Engineering (6/2000 To 11/2005)

• Managing a team of engineers responsible for system administration, database administration and production support

of our open system platforms, to include Unix (100 commercial servers), NT (20 commercial servers) and S/390 running

z/OS.

• Responsible for new technology research & recommendation, Operating System qualification, patch management,

high availability, load balancing technology, SSL accelerators and data center class local area networking.

• Develop and execute comprehensive Disaster Recovery strategy with national DR vendor. Successfully executed 10

open systems Disaster Recovery tests, to date.

• Research, qualify and deploy the Storage Area Network in order to leverage use of high end, high quality storage

environment. EMC DMX based SAN with 10 Brocade switches for 50 Unix hosts (all with a dual path through the SAN

using VxVM Dynamic Multi Pathing).

• Created Technology roadmap (3 year strategic plan) for Open Systems Technology, to include: analysis of hardware,

software, storage management (SAN, EMC, NFS), tools, disaster recovery, backup technologies, etc.

• Six Sigma (GE quality initiative) – Green Belt certified, very process focused

• Vendor management responsibility for storage, DR and major open systems vendors (EMC, Network Appliance, Sun,

HP, IBM, Sungard, etc.) Helped oversee contract negotiations with these vendors.

• Participated in two major Request for Proposal’s efforts. The first was related to upgrading the disk subsystems for the

Open Systems and the IBM mainframe platforms. The second was related to renewing our vendor contracts for disaster

recovery on the IBM and Open Systems platforms.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Developed technology roadmap for open systems technologies. Created much more robust

open systems disaster recovery capability demonstrated by successful test execution.

• Managed a cross functional team responsible for Unix, Desktop & Mainframe development.

• Responsible for Global Network Engineering Services ‘gateway’ development.

• New Production Introduction (NPI) team member representing GNES on THE future Electronic Commerce platform for

GXS.

• Outsourced team members to utilize a national backbone telecommunications provider for the next generation of the

GEIS Dial PPP service.

• Responsible for ensuring quality software development by using quality control mechanisms such as Six Sigma and
