Recruited and led a team of 10+ senior engineers to develop the media

(AAC-LD audio compression, acoustic echo cancelation, H.264 video

compression, OpenGL graphic) software for the consumer TelePresence video

conferencing product using Texas Instrument DaVinci and OMAP chips with

embedded Linux system; participated in the full cycle of the product

definition, architecture, development, production and customer support;

also worked with the hardware, platform software, signaling, cloud and web

portal teams for the system integration and inter-operation; co-inventor of

a patent.

Magnum Semiconductor, Inc., November 2008 - March 2010

Director, Software Development

Led a team of 30+ senior engineers in multiple locations to develop

video (MPEG2, H.264, VC-1) and audio (MPEG1-L2, AAC, AC3) compression

products in the professional and consumer market; work with management,

marketing, sales and program management to define requirements and work out

the execution plan; define system and software architectures; evaluate

vendors; hand-on bring up new products from prototype to production using

embedded Linux, VxWorks and related tools; recruit and train new team

members; also manage the SQA team and define test cases; work with sales

and marketing to support the customers.

Sr. Manager / Director, Multimedia Software Development

Led a team of senior software engineers to develop multimedia (audio,

video, imaging and graphic) software for the smartphone, tablet and

portable media player (PMP) market.

Recruited the entire US multimedia software group from scratch;

managed multi-national (US, India) software team (20+ engineers) to develop

industry-leading multimedia software for the system-on-chip (SOC) products

that were used in the most popular portable media players in the market,

including several generations of Apple iPods and Sandisk Sansa PMPs;

involved in the full cycle of the SoC product: product definition,

architectural design, FPGA verification, new chip bring-up, system

integration, power optimization, quality assurance and bug fixing, and

customer supports; also managed the third-party software vendors and worked

on the Statement of Works (SOWs) and contract negotiation.

Centillium Communications, Inc., Fremont, CA June 1999 - July 2004

Senior Manager, Software Development

(January 2003 - July 2004) Managed the entire software organization

(30+ engineers) of the Networking Business Unit, including DSP algorithm

development, embedded software and SQA in a multi-national environment (US,

India); delivered the software for the industry-leading carrier-class voice

over IP System-on-Chip (SOC) product; worked together with marketing to

define the product roadmaps.

(June 1999- December 2002) Recruited and managed a team of 15 senior

DSP software engineers (including 8 Ph.D.s) to develop the algorithms and

software for the voice over IP SOC product; laid out the architectural

frameworks with efficiency and flexibility for future growth; managed third

party software vendors; defined SOWs, negotiated contracts and hosted

trainings for contractors.

June 1999

Manager, DSP Software Development

Recruited and managed a group of software engineers to develop the

audio and video compression software in the System-on-Chip (SOC) products

for the DVD/VCD markets; played a key role in system architecture,

algorithm development and performance optimization.

Staff Engineer

As a key member of the DSP software team, developed the algorithms

and software for the voice-band modem SOC products, including the industry-

leading V.34 modems; received numerous company awards for technical

excellence.

Zoran Corporation, Santa Clara, CA June 1992 - June 1994

Senior Engineer

Being one of early members of this later successful company,

developed the algorithms, VLSI architecture and embedded software for the

image processing, video compression and audio compression SOC products,

including the DSP software for the first consumer Dolby AC-3 decoder and

the JPEG software for the first digital camera (with Fuji) in the world;

invented the VLSI architecture of the industry-leading video echo

canceller; participated in product definition, customer engagement and did

technical presentations in the trade shows.

Developed the digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms and embedded
