Professional Experience
Cisco Systems, Inc., March 2010 - Present
Manager, Software Engineering
Recruited and led a team of 10+ senior engineers to develop the media
(AAC-LD audio compression, acoustic echo cancelation, H.264 video
compression, OpenGL graphic) software for the consumer TelePresence video
conferencing product using Texas Instrument DaVinci and OMAP chips with
embedded Linux system; participated in the full cycle of the product
definition, architecture, development, production and customer support;
also worked with the hardware, platform software, signaling, cloud and web
portal teams for the system integration and inter-operation; co-inventor of
a patent.
Magnum Semiconductor, Inc., November 2008 - March 2010
Director, Software Development
Led a team of 30+ senior engineers in multiple locations to develop
video (MPEG2, H.264, VC-1) and audio (MPEG1-L2, AAC, AC3) compression
products in the professional and consumer market; work with management,
marketing, sales and program management to define requirements and work out
the execution plan; define system and software architectures; evaluate
vendors; hand-on bring up new products from prototype to production using
embedded Linux, VxWorks and related tools; recruit and train new team
members; also manage the SQA team and define test cases; work with sales
and marketing to support the customers.
nVIDIA Corp / PortalPlayer, Inc.(acquired by nVIDIA Corp.), Santa Clara, CA
July 2004 - October 2008
Sr. Manager / Director, Multimedia Software Development
Led a team of senior software engineers to develop multimedia (audio,
video, imaging and graphic) software for the smartphone, tablet and
portable media player (PMP) market.
Recruited the entire US multimedia software group from scratch;
managed multi-national (US, India) software team (20+ engineers) to develop
industry-leading multimedia software for the system-on-chip (SOC) products
that were used in the most popular portable media players in the market,
including several generations of Apple iPods and Sandisk Sansa PMPs;
involved in the full cycle of the SoC product: product definition,
architectural design, FPGA verification, new chip bring-up, system
integration, power optimization, quality assurance and bug fixing, and
customer supports; also managed the third-party software vendors and worked
on the Statement of Works (SOWs) and contract negotiation.
Centillium Communications, Inc., Fremont, CA June 1999 - July 2004
Senior Manager, Software Development
(January 2003 - July 2004) Managed the entire software organization
(30+ engineers) of the Networking Business Unit, including DSP algorithm
development, embedded software and SQA in a multi-national environment (US,
India); delivered the software for the industry-leading carrier-class voice
over IP System-on-Chip (SOC) product; worked together with marketing to
define the product roadmaps.
(June 1999- December 2002) Recruited and managed a team of 15 senior
