Dissertation Title: Health and Labor Economics - "Economic Effects

of Obesity on Wages and Its Impact over Time"

. Conducted empirical research concerning the economic effects of body

weight and the relationship between body weight and wages. Findings

captured key information for decision-making in the disease of obesity.

Research supports pragmatic policy recommendations such as nutrition

labeling laws.

. Identified key data sets (National Longitudinal Survey of Youth (NLSY)

1979 and 1997). Data sets were prepared using SAS software and regression

analyses were compiled using Stata.

. Compiled information dataset: NLSY79 and 97 to investigate differences

across race-ethnic and sex categories with regard to the relationship

between weight and wages and determined whether the effects of weight on

wages are the same throughout the distribution of wages.

. Utilized censored regressors, and quantile regression to detect the

effects and trends of weight on wages, and compared results from previous

research.

Masters Research Paper: "Economic Penalty of Obesity - The Effect of

Undesirable Weight on Earning"

. Used Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS) data to examine the effects

of obesity on wages of workers between 18 and 65 years of age. Data was

prepared using SAS software and regressions run using Limdep software.
