Oran J. Bodner
Career Summary
Over 25 years hands-on coding experience, including 8 years writing QA
automation at Microsoft. Most of the above in C-based languages (C/C++/C#)
under both UNIX and Windows OS. Exp. includes VB, XML, SQL, winforms,
webforms.
Typical of my work is the quality and speed at which I do things, and the
original ways I find to do things better - see the Extra sections below.
Experience
04/2007 - present Consulting, web sites + applications from home (VB,
C# .Net, SQL).
Numerous consultations, applications and websites during
this period, including the first and only European phone
directory http://ieurope.biz and my unique, just-released
database app http://mydatabase.biz .
Please see http://bodners.net/ojbcv.htm for more details.
Also somewhat of a prototype specialist, turning ideas into
functional websites in a matter of weeks.
03/95 - 03/2003 Microsoft, Haifa Israel
Software Development Engineer
. Developed software for automated tests in C++ and VB for
various projects (Firewall, Embedded NT, Message Queuing)
Extra: Various inventions and proposals, including automatically
converting a library definition file (API prototypes) into
a GUI app for
testing, and a proposal for local Internet services based
on user location.
01/91 - 03/95 Intel, Haifa Israel - Software Developer
. Worked on software simulators for Intel processors
. Developed software tools in Perl, C and shell-scripts
Extra: I proposed and developed the xtrace tool, which shows
signal
values in a tabular form.
10/89 - 12/90 Daisy/DAZIX, Herzeliya, Israel- Software Developer
. Developed graphic CAD tools in Pascal and C
. Performed quality-assurance testing on SUN/Unix
workstations
05/86 - 09/89 Netafim, Hatzerim, Israel- Software Developer
. Managed software project involving screen-editor,
interpreter and communications protocol targeted for IBM
PC.
10/81 - 07/85 AT&T Bell Laboratories, Murray Hill, New Jersey, USA
. Worked on UNIX graphics terminal project (Blit/DMD):
network protocols, terminal emulator, graphics applications
. Office-automation project: Developed e-mail, calendar,
personal directory, UI (like Microsoft Outlook today).
. Developed and enhanced UNIX commands (ls, ps, tput, etc.)
Extra: While in the commands group I proposed and implemented
the
tput command, as well as several new options for ls and
ps.
In the terminal project I proposed a method for capturing
and replaying user keystrokes and mouse movements (this is
currently the main testing method used by companies like
Mercury).
Education
82. MS. Computer Science, Thesis: Graphic Databases
Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island, USA
80. B.Sc. Mathematics, Hebrew University, Jerusalem, Israel
Personal
Citizenships: USA, Israel
Hobbies: Kayaking, swimming, writing

Cover Letter
I have a Bachelor's degree in Math, and later I did my Masters degree in
computer science at Brown (on database interfaces).
That was back in the early 80's.
I've been around long enough to be familiar with legacy programming
languages like Pascal and Fortran,
yet still up-to-date and working currently with C# threads, .NET and web
programming.
And what I don't know I learn readily.
Vast experience in C-based languages (25 years), on both UNIX and Windows,
including some 15 in C, over 10 in C++ and (most recently) 3-4 in C#.
In the past 4 years I've worked as an independent consultant and developed
and put various websites on the Internet (see
http://bodners.net/ojbcv.htm), many of them using SQL, others using XML
files.
Have become something of a 'rapid-prototype' specialist, turning ideas into
working websites in a matter of days.
Test development experience includes 8 years at Microsoft as an SDET,
working on Visual Studio using C++ and VB, as well as shell scripts.
(familiar with all Microsoft tools: VS, Source-safe, etc.).
I'm a stickler for quality and catching bugs - can't even read a book
without discovering syntactic and semantic errors
(even wrote once to Dan Brown's editor regarding a bug in The Da Vinci
Code, which he acknowledged and promised to correct in the next edition
Also worked for 4 years at Bell Labs developing UNIX, and several years at
Intel as software support for chip design and CAD.
US citizen, currently abroad.
After some absence I am moving back to the US this summer (Don't worry, we
won't need relocation assistance
