Genetic Engineering of American Chestnuts September 2010 December 2010
o Hands on experience in the isolation of genes of interest and the transformation of Castanea Dentata to increase
its resistance to the Chestnut Blight disease. Research design involved extensive use of PCR and agarose
electrophoresis.
Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship June 2010 August 2010
o 10 week internship in Brookhaven National Laboratory in the field of Biology and Energy. Project completed
was in the biomass augmentation of Salix spp. using endophytic bacteria.
- Selected for the Science and Energy Research Challenge (SERCh), a national competition of participants
from all Department of Energy laboratories.

o 2 year internship designed to fully synthesize, perform, and analyze results of a scientific research project in the
field of environmental biology. Project involved analyzing Dipteran’s mercury concentrations in the form of total
mercury and methylmercury in wetlands of the Adirondack Park.
