PERSONAL PROF I LE
Presently, I am working as a Swahili Instructor at University of San Francisco. I have very
good teaching evaluations from my students and my supervisor. I am a Kenyan Citizen and
an American Permanent Resident. I hold a Masters Degree in Swahili Linguistics and
L i terature from University of Nairobi, Kenya and a Bachelor of Education Degree in
Swahili language teaching from Moi University in Kenya. I have more than ten years of
teaching Swahili, interpretation, t ranslation and t ranscription in Swahili/ English along
w ith my Bachelors and Masters Degrees where the primary language of instruction was
Swahili and English. Being a native of Kenya, I lived in Kenya for 35 years. Swahili being
t he national and official language and English being the official language in Kenya, I
s tarted speaking Swahili language at a very early age. I also star ted learning Swahili and
E nglish at school from kindergarten all the way to University. I am also a native speaker of
K ikuyu language which is one among the forty two local languages in Kenya. I also worked
as a Swahili teacher in Kenya for 10 years where the language of inst ruction was Swahili.
Being born and raised in Kenya, I am very knowledgeable of the culture, t raditions and
customs of the Swahili people and Africans in general. I am a registered Swahili language
teacher with the teacher’s service commission, KENYA. I have a lot of professional
experience as a Swahili teacher both in Kenya and in the US. I always meet my work
deadlines and I am very hard working with or without supervision. I am willing to t ravel
and relocate for job assignments. I have been able to t ravel to many parts of the world
w here I learnt about different people and their culture and which gave me international
exposure. I use the modern pedagogy in my teaching and I attend pedagogy t raining and
workshops regularly. I am cheerful, friendly and yet authoritative. Based on these
qualifications, I believe that I have the best suited for this position.
