Resume:

Jason Brown

Master’s of Science in Biology

Profile

* ******* ** *

Homosassa, FL 34446

! I am currently finishing my master’s degree in biology at Florida State University. I

330-***-****

******@*****.***.***

have finished all the requirements for my degree, except my master’s defense, and I am

looking for employment immediately. My research investigates the role protein phosphatase

2A (PP2A) plays in learning and memory processes of conditioned taste aversion (CTA);

which provides an excellent model for studying the molecular basis of learning and memory.

" I am interested in starting a career that will allow me to further develop my skills in

the research setting. I currently have experience with several techniques, which I would like

to perfect; however, I would also like to broaden my horizons and learn many new

techniques as well. I learn fast, I have good problem solving skills, and I am dexterous.

Education

Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida - Master’s Degree in Biology, 2010-2013

University of Akron, Akron, Ohio - Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology, 2005-2010

" Magna Cum Laude

Stark State College, Canton, Ohio - Automotive Engineering Technology, 2003-2004

Springfield High School, Akron, Ohio, 1997-2001

Experience

Graduate student, Florida State University; Tallahassee, FL - 2010-2013

In route to a Ph.D in neuroscience, I decided to finish at a master’s degree and look for work

due to financial reasons. While at FSU, I initially investigated the role epigenetics play in the

susceptibility of cocaine addiction. During the latter two years of my time here, I investigated

the role of PP2a in CTA learning.

Research assistant, Florida State University; Tallahassee, FL - 2010-2011

Research assistant: My duties included: Running operant boxes, performing stereotaxic

surgeries for the injection of viral vectors, delivering agents by IP injection, animal handling,

performing jugular catheter surgeries for the administration of cocaine to rats, euthanizing

animals by rapid decapitation, and extracting tissues (brains and blood) from animals and

preparing them for molecular techniques.

Teaching assistant, Florida State University; Tallahassee, Fl - 2011-2013

Biological Science Lab 1 (fall semester of 2011, spring semester of 2013): This is an

introductory to laboratory skills class in which my duties included giving lectures and training

students in basic lab skills such as qPCR, spectrophotometry, pipetting, gel electrophoresis,

enzyme activity assays, DNA extraction and preparation for sequencing, etc.

facilitator for an anatomy and physiology lab. I also ran review sessions, delivered exams,

and graded homework and exams.

Vertebrate Physiology (spring 2011 and summer 2011): I served as a teaching assistant in

which my duties included grading exams, preparing quiz questions, and tutoring students.

Biological Science Lecture (summer of 2013): I served as a teaching assistant in which my

duties included grading exams, tutoring students, delivering exams, and giving review

sessions weekly.

Skills

1-3 years experience:

Neuroscience, molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, optical microscopy, conditioned

taste aversion (CTA) conditioning and behavioral analysis, small animal surgeries (stereotaxic

and jugular catheter), operant conditioning, perfusing animals and fixing their brains with

paraformaldehyde, pipetting, psychopharmacology, handling rats and delivering injections,

interpreting data, scientific writing, and teaching.

Limited experience:

Stereotaxic cannula implantations, stereotaxic brain lesioning, electrophoresis, DNA

extraction, spectrophotometry, and qPCR.

Academic honors and awards

Magna Cum Laude - University of Akron 2010

Dean’s List - University of Akron 2005-2010 (every semester)

Honors project - University of Akron - 2008-2009

McNair Scholarship Program - University of Akron - 2008-2010

Posters and Presentations
