ACADEMIC PROJECTS

. Selection of a Straight Line Gain Factor for a Differential Drive

Mobility Platform- experiments were required to define a scaling factor

which will enable the M5 Differential Drive Mobility Platform (a.k.a.

"the tank") to move in a straight line as well as adjust the motion

parameters of the tank in such a way that would allow the tank to spin in

exactly the same spot using drivetrain components.

. Simulation of manufacturing plant- Using the simulation software Witness

a working model is designed for a manufacturing plant for Gadgets R Us

Inc.'s facility. Throughput and efficiency of the plant is increased and

setup time is decreased while adhering to the budget and time

constraints. Results are analyzed and documented.

. Facility design for CW Sports Company using real time data- Material

handling system, flow and process is designed for a new manufacturing

facility for an existing company. This design considers space

requirements, economic analysis and future expansion of the facility. MS

excel and MS project used extensively.

Time study of worker performance- A work sampling activity to determine

the proportion of time spent by a worker at a manufacturing unit is

performed for a defined category of tasks. The outcome considered in this

activity was to increase efficiency of the worker and necessary

observations were taken at random times for a period of one week for this

exercise and an efficient way of doing the work is found out.

Logistics Transportation Systems Design- Research is made on influence of

Trucking in DFW area. Case study on Conway Inc., Ryder Inc., Walmart and

Pepsi Co. about their trucking and transportation methods in the DFW

area. Their improvements in the field of transportation were highlighted.

. Quality improvement in Vacuum Cleaner- Total Quality check on the Bissell

upright vacuum cleaner is made. Process and Product Flow diagram are

drawn for the product to find quality issues. Various quality control

procedures like the Control Charts & Pareto diagrams are used to analyze

the issues and solve the quality problem in the vacuum cleaner.
