Volkswagen Group of America, Auburn Hills, MI
Contractor Youngsoft / Network Support Analyst, 4/2013 – Present
Currently Support: Volkswagen Group of America WAN/LAN infrastructure.
Coordinate change controls, design datacenter architecture, assist in isolating and
identifying root cause analysis, provide 3rd level network support, prioritize tasks based on
business requirements, keep and constantly maintain appropriate network documentation,
recommend solutions to alleviate chronic problems, effectively communicate with
technical and non technical staff, facilitate the intellectual growth of myself and
colleagues, incorporate IP SLA monitors to ensure ISP committed access rate
compliance, design routing solutions, install hardware and cabling.
Designed datacenter architecture for migration from Cisco Catalyst 6500 based
•
solution towards an upgraded Cisco Nexus solution. Implemented Cisco’s “End Of
Row / Top Of Rack” architecture which simplified cabling requirements, reduce
licensing / support costs, facilitated increased throughput for core applications and
increased overall port density resulting in additional network capacity and throughput.
o Coordinated with different team leads; assisting with the migration of their
systems to minimal impact on services.
o Created a highly available, fully meshed vPC architecture using Cisco Nexus
2148 Fabric Extenders.
o Migrated over 1500 unique interfaces from the Cisco Catalyst 6500 platforms
and updated the code for proper NX OS operation.
o Using the Cisco Best Practice QoS Baseline design; incorporated DSCP
tagging at the server access layer to ensure proper handling of both Express
Forwarding and Mission Critical traffic across the campus and WAN.
Designed and implemented complex policy based routing solution to accommodate
•
and speed up replication traffic in order to facilitate the migration to AVAMAR.

o Consulted with multiple team leads in order to understand their requirements,
provide additional input, generate documentation and coordinate actions for
change implementation.
o Utilized Cisco best practices when designing VPN tunnel in order to ensure
data integrity while at the same time providing encryption above required levels.
As a new employee, consulted with networking teammates to understand knowledge
•
gaps and used initiative to comprehensively document the physical topology across
the entire VWGoA networking infrastructure.
o Utilized automated network mapping tools to cut down the time involved in
networking documentation. This allowed me to work on additional tasks
simultaneously.
o Ensured my understanding of the many unique platforms present in the
VWGoA networking infrastructure by studying up on areas that I was less
familiar.

Booz Allen Hamilton, San Diego, CA
Senior Consultant / Senior Network Engineer, 2/2012 – 3/2013
Supported: Ballistic Missile Defense System Communication Network Teleport Gateway
(BTG), Missile Defense Agency (MDA), Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command
(SPAWAR), US Army and US Navy.
Design, implement, install and optimize new and existing networking infrastructure that
must adhere to strict policy and security requirements. Lead and serve as a subject
matter expert on multiple networking projects with parallel efforts. Develop, establish and
improve standard policies and procedures along with customer training programs.
Improve network efficiency and reduce support expenditures while working within
budgetary constraints of $4.5M. Prioritize efforts based on organizational requirements.
Establish and improve standardized architectural considerations for approximately 250
Cisco routers. Develop network topology documentation and author whitepapers on
current design methodologies employed network wide.
Pioneered router virtualization and consolidation that reduced hardware footprint and
•
support expenditures in all standardized backbone and spoke topologies. Developed
proposals that improved and expanded network security through several methods
including route obfuscation, data reflection, encryption, Intrusion Prevention Systems
(IPS) and Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS).
o Reduced hardware requirement for nine separate hub sites from three Cisco
3800 series routers to two utilizing advanced router virtualization techniques.
This network design augmentation reduced overall network convergence time,
simplified Protocol Independent Multicast (PIM) architecture, improved WAN
reliability and reduced support costs per site by over 30%.
o Developed and implemented route obfuscation techniques that reliably forward
unicast, PIM (PIM SM, PIM DM) and Source Specific Multicast (SSM) data
streams to secure clients while blocking any possibility of identifying packet and
route information being obtained by an unauthorized 3rd party. Authored a
whitepaper detailing methodologies incorporated into this multicast network

design. Assisted additional organizations with incorporating these security
features into their respective network infrastructures.
Incorporated several novel techniques which improved network management, WAN
•
redundancy, network reliability and convergence. Using several advanced failover
techniques such as tagged packets, policy routing, service level agreements,
Embedded Event Manager Applets and Tcl scripting; network efficiency has increased
an additional 20% while WAN outages have been eliminated completely.
o Designed, conducted peer review and implemented multiple Cisco Embedded
Event Manager Applets and Tcl scripts that monitor events and react according
to their preprogrammed logic. Correctly identifying characteristics inherent in
satellite circuit failures has been paramount to this technique’s success.
Incorporation of this strategy has been widespread to organizations that rely
heavily on Satellite communications.
