PROJECT DETAIL

Title : Foggy Image Enhancement Using Singular Value Decomposition

Description : Since the existing methods produces an enhanced image with more

blocking effect and mean square error, I have proposed the new concept called Singular

Value Decomposition(SVD) by using MATLAB for efficient enhancement. Initially,an

input image is converted in to grey-scale image by using histogram equalization and

then it is divided in to the four frequency sub-bands by Discrete wavelet

transform(DWT).From these sub-bands, the low frequency band(LL Sub-band) is

selected for processing under SVD. Since the LL sub-band is in a matrix form, we can

easily calculate the enhancement factor value .This enhancement factor value is used to

enhance the foggy areas in an image by Singular Value Equalization. Finally, Inverse

Discrete wavelet transform (IDWT) is applied to reconstruct an original image. Since

this method provides an output image with minimum mean square error, it has excellent

application in photoshop and forensics department.
