PERFORMANCE STUDY OF MILL TOOLS

In the recent developing world milling tools plays a very important role in milling

machine operations. I studied about different milling tools like end mill, slab mill, face

mill, hollow mill at different loads, different operating temperature conditions, with

different dimensions. I learned that where we have to use what type of mill tools in

various milling process.

Main project:

DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF BUTT JOINT USING FRICTION STIR WELDING

FSW (friction stir welding) is one of the massively using welding-technique in

various fields like shipbuilding and offshore, aerospace, automotives, railway rolling

stock, fabrication, personal computers. In our project I had considered A319 alloy of

alluminium metal sheets. I designed straight, tapered, threaded, hexagonal shaped mill

tools and crafted on a lathe and make them nitrated then performed friction stir welding

operations by the four milling tools. I calculated the time taken by each milling tool for

the welding process by maintaining constant turning speed and feed rate. I calculated

theoretically what the heat generating rate, heat dissipation rate is. I had found that

hexagonal is the best suited for the friction welding process.

I have visited NEL CASTE Industry in Feb 2012 for best how the manufacturing process

is performed.
