Education: I currently am enrolled at LBCC studying Science and English
working towards a Technical Writing Degree. I studied journalism, and
communications at University of Colorado, Boulder. I have a BS in
Communications. I took computer programming classes at El Paso Community
College in Colorado Springs. I studied photography at Boulder Free School,
got a Radio Operators License from FCC, Completed the Ontological Society
Training Program. I also studied drafting, bookkeeping and academics in
high school.
Experience:
2011-2013-Independent contractor, various location Southern CA. Estimator,
Planner, Consultant, Project Management. Assisted as needed in various
environments on contract basis, while attending school.
2009-2011-Prographics, Rosemead, CA Estimator-Planner, at Commercial
Printer specializing in packaging and direct mail. Company has 40" 6 color
Komori, 5 Color 40" Komori, 28" 6 color Komori and 2 color perfecting 40"
Heidelberg presses as well as a Digimaster and Indigo Press for variable
data. They also have a mail table and in line fugitive glue. This company
has a full bindery complement with a Bobst and Cylinder Diecutter,
Jagenberg box maker, as well as a Muller Martini saddle stitcher with 5
pockets. I work on a Mac system with a Filemaker Pro based estimating
program customized for this companies needs. We do direct mailings for the
local Indian Casinos, car dealers, and have an in house design department
including a CAD operator. We also do labels for local corrugated
manufacturers and agencies working with Disney and other movie studios.
Full service, direct mail, and quick turn-around is the company's bread and
butter.
2005- Zoo Printing, Culver City, CA. Estimator Gang run printer,
specialized in low price, repetitive work. I answered customer queries, did
custom quotes and helped them navigate the system.
2001-2005, 2006-2009 Classic Litho, Torrance, CA Estimator. And production
team leader. I used the PSI Estimating program. I prepared quotes, made
dummies, and mockups, for Ad agencies, film industry, pharmaceutical,
hospitals, auto, food and fashion industries. Direct to plate printer with
6 color Heidelberg 29" & 8 color Heidelberg CD 40" 8 color press, quick
turn around high end work on plastics, packaging, & commercial work with
in house die cutting, saddle- stitching, folding and hand work department.
We also had Kodak Nexpress 2000 for high end digital color work and Epson
plotters for poster and large format work. I negotiated with vendors,
especially on paper prices, planned projects and worked closely with
project managers, sales and some clients. These were very intricate quotes
with tight deadlines and tricky production values. We also did direct
mailing in house. I often had to do time and motion studies for some of the
more labor intensive projects.
1997-2001 Westwood Press, LA, CA. Estimator/Manager. Worked with Franklin
Estimating program. Company had small presses 2 & 4 color Ryobi, and one
Harris 36" 1 color press. In house die cutting, foil stamping and
blueprint service. We had to buyout electronic film output and some
bindery. I pre-flighted files, prepared job tickets, did costing, materials
ordering including paper, ink, chemistry, plates and film. I negotiated
vendor contracts, maintained production schedule and downloaded files. This
was a smallish commercial printer with mostly retail business. I managed
staff of 12.
1995-1997 Chromatic Inc, Glendale, CA. Pressroom Manager. Company had 6
color 28" & 40" Komori presses, & 2 color Chief duplicator, I planned,
scheduled crews, performed press checks, ordered ink and stock, ordered
parts and maintenance schedule for presses. I managed crew of 10 to 12 at
medium sized commercial print shop.
1992-1995 Bertco Graphics, LA, CA. Senior Estimator/Web Scheduler. Worked
with PSI System, oversaw 4 estimators. I helped vice president restructure
company, preparing cost reports. Box and POP sections were separated from
web division. I suggested separate web prepress to increase efficiency and
oversaw change. I became web department scheduler. Company had 40" 6 color
Mitsubishis and M110 Harris Webs. This was a transition position as I was
hired to try to bring customers from San Francisco when Pacific Litho went
out of business.
1987-1992 Pacific Litho, San Francisco, CA. Customer Service/Planner. Used
Profit system for tickets, worked with high end customers, agencies etc,
reviewed quote and made revisions, coordinated prepress, press, finishing,
change orders, press checks, and job costing. M-300, M110 Harris web
presses, Heidelberg 4-8 color 40" & 60" sheet fed presses, and in-house ink
department. A very important part of this job was pulling samples. I worked
closely with QC department and sales to make sure the best were selected.
1983-1987 Meredith Newspapers, Cupertino, CA Commercial Print Sales,
Management, and Estimating. Newspaper Publisher where I sold time on press
Wednesday through Saturday PM, the house papers ran Sunday through Tuesday.
8 units Goss Community Non Heatset Web Press. I did all my own prospecting,
had a secretary to assist and scheduled press crew, arranged bindery, did
my own graphic design and taught graphic production classes to high school
students. I also handled bulk mailings and had to deal with post office on
rates, inserting requirements etc.
Other interests: I spent several years as a production graphic artist,
camera operator, stripper and plate maker. I also worked in radio as a DJ
and hosting my own shows on KGNU, Boulder, CO, KFAI, Minneapolis, MN, and
KUSF, San Francisco, CA.
