Freelance or For Hire Industrial Designer
Hello!
My name is Jeff Forsythe. I am a graduate from The Cleveland Institute of Art, where I earned my
bachelors degree in fine arts. While attending school I took advantage of every opportunity that interested
me, but my focus was Industrial Design, Graphic Design, and Sculpture.
I am a incredibly driven person who is very passionate about design. It has been my dream to work
as an industrial designer sense I graduated high school in 2000. At that time I was encouraged by my family
to learn a trade. After graduation I attended a technical college and trained to be an automotive technician.
I was very successful at it, and was lead technician in a shop before I was legally able to buy a beer. I was
making a great salary, and felt very proud of my career, but when I went to sleep at night I couldn’t help but
think what could have been.
In 2005 I decided to give up a 45,000 dollar a year job to follow my dream. I had to take up a job
in a restaurant working as a fry cook making seven dollars an hour so that I could take classes during the
day. I spent three years, working my fingers to the bone to develop a respectable portfolio. In 2008 I was
accepted to The Cleveland Institute of Art. I have been a full time student and a full time employee in one
of the most time demanding majors out there. I was not a great artist when I started, but I spent those four
years learning the fundamentals and developing my own style of design.
In the summer of my third year I accepted an intern at Flambeau Inc in Middlefield, Ohio. The intern-
ship was supposed to end in August but they were so pleased with my performance they decided to keep
me on throughout the school year part time. Flambeau has been a great opportunity to collaborate with
designers with a total of fifty years experience. I have done projects using plastic injection molded products,
and soft side products.
After graduating an opportunity was offered to me at Advanced RV, a start up RV manufacturer still
in it’s infancy. I have been working there for the last year and am currently the most senior member other
then our CEO. My job there has been a trial by fire. All projects had to be developed on an insane time
schedule, with a shoestring budget,, a skeleton crew, and all with the highest
expectations of elegance, and craftsmanship. Only by totally immersing myself into the job I was able to
excel at this position.
My hard work has paid off. I am currently in charge of sourcing and ordering all material and compo-
nents that get installed in our coaches, create and maintain all design related items, and manage projects
that are performed by the upholstery department.
I am satisfied with my current position but if i come across another opportunity presents itself
I would be doing myself a great disservice. I’m not afraid to try something out of my comfort zone and
promise to be the hardest working employee. I encourage you to look over my student portfolio at http://
www.behance.net/jeffforsythedesigns I can provide work related portfolios upon request. If you think that
I would be a good fit for you company please feel free to contact me at anytime. Thank you for taking the
time to review my information and have a great day!
Sincerely,
