7/2010 - 7/2013 Mayer Pollock Steel Corporation
Director of Safety, Health & Environmental Management $86K
!
I was hired as the Director of Safety, Health & Environmental Management for this company who had
never had a safety professional on staff. This 135 year old family-run business operates three scrap
processing yards and a national demolition division. The company required a complete safety
management program build starting virtually from scratch and included gap analysis, policy/procedure
creation, implementation, compliance measuring, forecasting, training, facility compliance and field
auditing. Initial tasks included coordination with multiple occupational health facilities after hazard
assessments provided potential exposures, periodic air monitoring during specific job tasks provided for a
historic monitoring program, and reviews of existing policies. An understanding of the unique company
culture indicated that implementing a behavior-based program would be the most practical and expedient
way to approach the culture change that was needed and would include an emphasis on accountability of
executive, senior, and operational supervision.
!
Environmental responsibilities included annual Tier II report preparation and submission for all three
facilities, coordinating environmental consultant activity, and storm water prevention planning.

Client’s overall Contractor Management Program. I was proactive in developing a guidance document for
contractors for the creation of a site specific safety & health plan, and pre-lift planning forms for use in
mobile crane operations, and educating contractors and their representatives on client policies and
procedures. I worked closely with Asset Protection Services, General Safety Department, Engineering,
and Management. My daily responsibilities included reviewing the contractor’s Safety & Health plan
submittal, site inspections, and non-conformance database management. During the time frame of this
project, I followed my boss to a new company (Tetra Tech, NUS) and brought my client and project with
