PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Project Associate, Caterpillar Inc. Peoria, IL
Jan. '13 - May '13
Studied blue prints, customer design proposals, GD&T manuals. Analyzed
production defects data in gear manufacturing process and traced its root
causes using lean quality tools. Requested Level 4 - PPAP (Production
Part Approval Process) from the suppliers making sure the work orders
confirm to the supplier prints before being part marked. Performed
capability study (Cp, Cpk, Pp, Ppk) in Minitab to monitor and track the
performance of the process, pre and post heat treatment with the New
Product Introduction (NPI) team. Checked the spline teeth and bore forms
using Klingelnberg and Taylor Hobson machines respectively. Investigated
malfunctions in the equipments, fixtures and provided improvement
recommendations using Gage R&R study. Assisted Concurrent Product and
Process Development (CPPD) team to update PFMEA study and control plan to
ensure minimal non-conformance on the product line
Accomplishments:
. Team effort resulted in decreasing non-conformance to 15% per work order
and increased profits to $43.7 k/yr.
. Project successful in meeting the print requirements for tight tolerance
of 15 microns & AGMA class of C7 on gear teeth
Lead Support Engineer, Industrial Assessment Center - U.S. Dept. of
Energy, Peoria, IL Jan. '12 - Jan '13
Led cross-functional teams for energy audits to small and medium-sized
manufacturing plants. Held brain-storming sessions with staff engineer
and the team to come up with creative assessment recommendations which
would provide significant dollar $ savings. Performed Plant Energy
Profiler (PEP) Analysis for every client to determine waste production
and target areas for enhancing the efficiency of systems. Collaborated
with other teams to study the market and competitive products for any
equipment replacement and to analyze the electric and water bills.
Provided recommendations for improving the efficiency of the systems
being used, enhancing the productivity and minimizing waste generated in
the plant. Evaluated returns on investment for each recommendation.
Followed up with clients to ensure successful implementation
Accomplishments:
. Generated $80k net savings - average project by enhancing efficiency of
systems, improving productivity & minimizing waste
Assistant Research Engineer, Dept. of Mechanical Engg., Bradley Univ.,
Peoria, IL Aug. '12 - May '13
Designed components and assemblies like motor housing, crankshaft, bench
vice, gear assembly etc; created exploded views & drawings, BOM using
Pro-E and conducted 3D & 2D analysis on (plane stress, plane strain &
beam models) models using Pro-Mechanica and used them to create
prototypes for testing/validation in Rapid Prototyping machine.
Modeled/Assembled four-bar, slider-crank & six-bar mechanisms and
performed kinematic and dynamic simulations using Pro-Mechanism
. Created Pro-E - 4.0 & 5.0 (Creo) manuals to instruct students in class,
assigned projects for modeling and assembling and detail drawings,
found root causes for issues arriving in assemblies and analysis
results and compared with theoretical results
Performed finite element analysis using Abaqus 6.11.1 on components with
notches to determine stress concentrations using triangular and Quad
element meshing (partition, biased); Conducted Deflection Analysis on
a curved semi-circular frame under conditions like (A distributed load,
