AGL’s Renewables Engineering team has a unique opportunity for a Lead Engineer - SCADA & Automation to be based in Melbourne.
In this pivotal role, you’ll lead a team of talented engineers to support SCADA modernisation while focusing on the reliable and efficient day-to-day operation of AGL’s renewable generation portfolio.
Our assets include wind farms, hydro power stations, gas turbines, and battery energy storage systems (BESS). You’ll combine technical authority with operational excellence to ensure secure, compliant, and high-performance systems across this diverse portfolio.
There’s never been a more critical time to lead. As AGL transitions to 12GW of new renewable generation and firming capacity by 2035, your expertise will help deliver optimal performance and resilience for the future of energy.
What You’ll Do:
Provide expert technical leadership for SCADA modernisation, guiding integration strategies and ensuring compliance with industry and cybersecurity standards.
Lead the delivery of SCADA and automation upgrade projects, managing scope, cost, and timelines while meeting NER and Security of Critical Infrastructure Act requirements.
Act as the technical authority for SCADA integration and ongoing operations, ensuring robust, secure, and reliable connectivity across AGL’s renewable generation portfolio.
Collaborate across operations, trading, and IT/OT teams to design and implement solutions that enable secure and compliant asset operations.
Mentor and empower a team of SCADA and Automation specialists, fostering technical excellence and continuous improvement.
What You’ll Bring:
Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
Experience in power generation or renewables with a focus on electrical control systems.
Proficiency in designing and implementing control systems, including DCS, PLC, RTU, SCADA, and HMI programming.
Understanding of cybersecurity frameworks (IEC 62443, NIST, ISO 27001).
Working knowledge of AS3000/AS3110 and other Australian Standards relevant to electrical engineering and controls.
Knowledge of AEMO requirements and NER compliance.
Previous experience with Inductive Automation Ignition SCADA platform (highly valued).
Project Management Professional (PMP) or Agile certifications, or equivalent.
Experience with historian systems (PI System) and communication protocols (Modbus, DNP3, OPC UA)
