Your opportunity
As a Support Worker in our Tenancy Sustainability Program, you will be making a real difference every day for people across Katherine and the Big Rivers region who are working hard to build safe, stable homes and stronger futures.
This role is perfect for someone who knows and loves the region, who understands the importance of community, connection, and having a safe place to call home.
Each day, you’ll walk alongside individuals and families, helping them strengthen life skills, maintain their tenancies, and access local services and opportunities that help them thrive.
Working with a supportive, friendly team based right here in Katherine, you’ll bring a trauma-informed, strengths-based, and culturally respectful approach to every interaction. Your support will contribute to real, lasting change, not just for individuals, but for the whole community.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
Provide person-centred, practical day-to-day support to people in Katherine and surrounding communities, helping with tenancy tasks, life skills, and connection to local services.
Support tailored case plans under the guidance of Case Managers, ensuring plans are respectful, culturally informed, and aligned with each participant’s goals.
Complete documentation, registrations, and reporting in line with Mission Australia’s standards.
Contribute to the smooth running and ongoing improvement of the Tenancy Support Program by participating in team activities, training, and shared projects.
Build strong, positive relationships with participants, colleagues, Elders, community organisations, local service providers, and partner agencies.
Provide outreach across the Big Rivers region, helping participants engage in community programs, cultural supports, and practical resources.
Work collaboratively with the whole team, supporting senior staff and maintaining professionalism and positivity in all interactions.
Requirements for success
A relevant certificate or diploma, or equivalent experience that shows you can support people effectively.
Previous experience in a support, community, or people-focused role (paid or volunteer) is highly regarded.
A genuine belief in people’s ability to grow, heal, and build their futures and empathy to support them on that journey.
Ability to work well as part of a team and contribute to a positive, supportive workplace.
Ability to maintain boundaries and demonstrate integrity, reliability, and accountability in all work.
Basic communication skills and confidence using technology for simple administrative tasks.
Respect for and understanding of Central Australian First Nations cultures, with the ability to work in a culturally safe, inclusive, and respectful way.
Willingness to learn, take initiative, and adapt to the needs of participants and the program across Katherine and the Big Rivers region.
