Description
The Archdiocese of Hartford has an opening for a part-time position (24 hours a week) for a Pastoral Assistant with a primary work location in Waterbury. This role requires regular presence at the Parish office and may include travel to homes, hospitals, or other parish-affiliated locations. The Pastoral Assistant will support the Administrator/Pastor in both the administrative and pastoral life of the parish, including evangelization efforts, coordination of ministries, sacramental scheduling, and office management.
Primary Responsibilities:
Collaborate in the day-to-day operations of the Parish office
Answer phones, manage email and voicemail communications, and greet visitors
Maintain the parish calendar and assist with scheduling Baptisms, Weddings, Funerals, and Anointings of the Sick
Coordinate with music ministers for funerals and weddings
Communicate and coordinate with the Business Manager regarding supply ordering and parish database management
Oversee scheduling of altar servers, lectors, and Eucharistic Ministers
Schedule Mass intentions and maintain accurate sacramental records
Support the coordination of hospital and homebound visits
Collaborate with the Administrator/Pastor and Pastoral Council in organizing volunteer ministries
Assist with the creation and distribution of parish communications (bulletins, newsletters, announcements) Schedule:
Monday-Thursday: 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Friday: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree (preferred in Business, Theology, or related field)
1-2 years of administrative or pastoral experience preferred
Virtus Certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, Canva, and Adobe
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Highly organized with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities
Demonstrates sound judgment, adaptability, and professionalism
Comfortable using technology and maintaining confidentiality
Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 lbs and set up for parish events
Candidates must understand and be committed to the social, moral, and ethical teachings of the Catholic Church
