Description
Facilities Staff are responsible for the safe, professional, reliable, efficient, environmentally-sound, and cost-effective maintenance of the facilities on the Springfield College campus. The painter is responsible for the general maintenance and painting of all buildings and properties.
Responsibilities
Perform repairs, maintenance and makes improvements to support maintenance and condition the infrastructure of the College's buildings.
Applies paints, sealers, and solvents to exterior and interior building surfaces such as plaster, sheetrock, concrete, and wood.
Performs building exterior and interior caulking, finish repair, mud and tape, and texturing tasks.
Operates equipment such as airless spray equipment, scaffolding, and motorized lifts.
Uses mechanized high-reach equipment to renew caulking on exterior building panel seams, windows, and doors.
Performs special refinishing tasks including wood surface preparation, staining, and sealing.
Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
Performs minor plaster repair, blending newly renovated wall surfaces with existing plaster.
Surveys building painting project sites to estimate time and material quantities required; selects appropriate surface coatings.
Maintain campus buildings in optimum condition through maintenance, repair, and replacement.
Perform work on all building related systems, including finishes and painting of both large ands small areas.
Complete work orders and other work, projects, etc. as assigned by the supervisor.
Maintenance work on: doors, windows, stairs, equipment, glass & glazing, plaster, sheetrock & taping, masonry, and all related areas. Assist and provide recommendations for the planning of maintenance to improve the condition, appearance, and life expectancy of college buildings and structures.
Set-up materials and equipment for the safe completion of work, while ensuring surrounding areas are properly protected prior to the commencement of any maintenance activity.
Assist the Carpenters in maintaining the campus.
Support the activities of the Maintenance Department, Facilities Management staff, other personnel, and contractors to ensure effective and efficient maintenance of campus facilities.
Support other Facilities Management departments to successively meet deadlines and support the Springfield College community and the college's mission.
Abide by all standards for safety and health guidelines, environmental regulations, quality, and productivity by following established policies and procedures.
Perform other work and additional duties as assigned, including assisting other Facilities Management operations to complete assignments, perform seasonal tasks as needed, including but not limited to plowing, shoveling, clearing snow & ice from walks, stairs, pathways, and roads, and being available for emergencies and scheduled "off-hour" work as needed.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- 7+ years of experience in building maintenance or construction operation in multi-trades (plaster, taping and sheetrock, multi-surface preparation, framing, and other building interior/exterior finishing, etc.)
- Must possess a valid Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate's or Vocational/Technical school degree/training
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Service oriented background with commercial and residential experience. knowledge of carpentry and construction related skilled trades including but not limited to: carpentry, roofing, flooring, masonry, doors, cabinetry, and windows & hardware.
- Detailed knowledge of specifications and reading blueprints.
- Demonstrate proper judgment in behavior, speech, and dress in a neat, clean, and appropriate professional manner for the assignment and work setting.
- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, have initiative, be a self-starter, and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to analyze situations and information, consider the risks and implications and implement a plan of action.
- Must be able to work as a team member & effectively with other personnel including faculty, contractors, students.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job including but not limited to walking around campus, climbing stairs, ladders, scaffolds or platforms, lifting/carrying heavy objects and working in confined spaces.
- Willingness to perform other work as required by the department and Facilities Maintenance.
