A leading contract manufacturer serving top-tier nutraceutical and wellness brands is seeking an experienced Research and Development Scientist to join its product innovation team. Known for its advanced manufacturing capabilities and robust product development pipeline, the company operates from a GMP-compliant facility located near Freehold, NJ. The organization specializes in naturally sourced formulations including capsules, tablets, powders, soft gels, and gummies, with a strong focus on scalability and scientific excellence.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$65k - $75k

Position Overview:

The Research and Development Scientist will be responsible for the development, optimization, and troubleshooting of nutritional supplement formulations. This position plays a critical role in new product development, from benchtop to pilot and commercial scale, supporting cross-functional teams including operations, procurement, and quality. The Research and Development Scientist will also maintain thorough documentation in accordance with internal SOPs and regulatory expectations.

Responsibilities of the Research and Development Scientist:

Formulate capsules, tablets, and powders based on brand specifications and market needs.

Conduct product development trials from benchtop through scale-up and verification batches.

Collaborate with procurement to identify and source new raw materials as required.

Address technical and process challenges during formulation and commercialization stages.

Operate and maintain lab and pilot-scale equipment, including tablet presses and encapsulation machines.

Ensure equipment is properly cleaned and sanitized in compliance with lab standards.

Track and document all research and development activities, maintaining accurate project records.

Follow SOPs and cGMP protocols at all times.

Manage raw material inventory for active projects.

Support multiple concurrent research and development projects and ensure timely execution.

Perform other related administrative duties as needed.

Required Experience/Skills for the Research and Development Scientist:

At least 2 years of hands-on experience in the dietary supplement, nutraceutical, food, beverage, or pharmaceutical industries.

Familiarity with various dosage forms including capsules, tablets, and powders.

Experience with lab and production equipment such as dry granulators, tablet presses, and encapsulation machinery.

Strong project management skills and attention to detail.

Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Experience/Skills for the Research and Development Scientist:

Hands-on experience in scale-up and verification batches in a GMP environment.

Familiarity with regulatory documentation and stability study support.

Experience working with natural or botanical ingredients.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences or a related field required.
