Job purpose
Prepare and serve meals for patients and staff from the prepared and approved menu.
Ensures continual cleanliness and safety of work areas, storage areas, food service areas
and equipment and utensils.
Duties and responsibilities
• Prepare meals and serve on-time daily.
• Prepare snacks for patients daily.
• Assure that special diets are offered to patients with "dietary restrictions," according
the QI standards.
• Prepares foods from menus & recipes recommended or published by dieticians and
other industry professionals.
• Set up foods in service line/trays, maintaining proper servicing temperature 100% of
the time.
• Record temperatures of refrigerators / freezers daily.
• Employ proper hand washing techniques 100% of the time.
• Store foods according to industry protocol.
• Implement all infection control processes 100% of the time.
• Accept and put stock away.
• Assure donated foods are picked up on-time.
• Rotate stock as used.
• Direct and monitor activity of patients or volunteers assigned to the kitchen area.
• Follow all policies and procedures of the department and agency 100% of the time.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information and confidentiality of department and
agency data.
• Assist all customers with questions/comments by responding within (1) business day.
• Maintain a positive score on the Patient Food Satisfaction Survey Report.
• Attend all mandatory in-service trainings, regular departmental staff meetings, and
other meetings as required.
• Keep work area clean and neat.
• Job duties may be increased, decreased, or combined as the needs of the agency
dictate.
Qualifications
One-year experience in volume cooking required, specifically in health care / social
service setting.

Working conditions
Reports to the Dietary Supervisor. Supervision occurs through the Patient Satisfaction
Survey results, weekly review of the Dietary Checklist, observation, and feedback from
staff and patients.
Work areas may have slippery floors, steamed hot air, chilled air, and may include open
flame. Environment will contain sharp objects and utensils. Chemicals, seasonings, and
allergens may present a hazard when proper kitchen protocol is not followed. Stain of
clothing may occur if protective gloves and apron are not donned at all times.
Physical requirements
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee may need to remain in a
stationary position for long periods of time or may need to move about for extended
periods of time;
• Position may require employee to have full range of motion and lift up to 50 lbs;
• Position may require individual to communicate, converse and exchange information
with others;
• Position may require individual to perceive communications via email, phone or in
person;
