Description
Overview of Position: Alpine Race Coaches work with a group of athletes throughout the course of the season enhancing their skiing and ski racing skills, fundamentals, and tactics to facilitate achieving competitive goals. Additional professional education and certification credentials other than those required to apply may also be supported by the WRFPA. Coaching opportunities are available for U10, U12, U14, and U16 age groups.
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
Organize, manage, and deliver high-quality on-snow training sessions for athletes
Utilize modern teaching and coaching methods and tactics in alignment with the Alpine Skiing Fundamentals and consistent with PSIA, USSS, and the direction of the Race Program Director
Execute all coaching assignments as based on program needs
Demonstrate strong decision-making skills regarding on-mountain safety including appropriate terrain selection, and effective group management in varying on-snow training environments
Develop relationships with athletes and co-workers based on mutual trust to establish and accomplish athlete training goals
Foster an effective coaching environment for athletes
Promote play, experimentation, and exploration of skills and mountain terrain appropriately
Adhere to all WMC Racing policies and procedures, particularly as it relates to guest and employee safety
Assist in setting up and tearing down equipment in training environments
Participate in all assigned development training sessions and utilize provided resources to independently develop skills and knowledge
Assist with organizing home races to the extent that scheduling allows
Ability to travel to away races when necessary strongly preferred
Fulfill a season long coaching commitment
Other duties as needed
Work Schedule and Conditions: This is a part-time seasonal position on weekends and holiday periods from mid-December through mid-March, with the possibility of full-time work for the right candidate.
Requirements
Job Qualifications and Skills:
USSS Level 100 Certification (minimum) required including background check and Safesport training
Previous racing or coaching experience required
PSIA Certification preferred
Must have a strong understanding of the Alpine Responsibility Code and consistently demonstrate appropriate mountain etiquette
Understand the Alpine Skiing Fundamentals as they relate to ski racing
Physical Requirements
Must be able to regularly and consistently move equipment or people weighing up to 50 pounds
Must be able to observe and identify potential hazards and obstacles including but not limited to safe trail and traffic merging, appropriate lift riding, changing snow conditions, and avoidance of other people and obstacles
Must be able to safely walk, hike, ski, and navigate uneven terrain with snow and ice-covered hills and surfaces
Must be able to ski or snowboard comfortably and safely on green and blue terrain up to 8 hours per day in any outdoor winter weather conditions
Ability to push, pull, stoop, kneel, and reach regularly
Salary Description
$19 - $22/hr
