The part-time Assistant Director of Admissions for Strategic Initiatives promotes St. John's College, our two campuses in Annapolis, Maryland, and Santa Fe, New Mexico, and our distinctive great books curriculum among prospective undergraduate students. The ultimate goal of the admissions team, including the Assistant Director, is to encourage an increasing number of intellectually curious and talented prospective students to apply and enroll at St. John's.

The Assistant Director manages homeschool and classical school recruitment efforts, developing a consistent annual pipeline of prospective students from these backgrounds. The Assistant Director is based on the Annapolis campus but joins an energetic college-wide team with colleagues on campus in Annapolis and Santa Fe.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

Build and implement a strategy to recruit prospective students from homeschool and classical school backgrounds, including the recruitment and management of volunteers for this project.

Be an articulate, fluent, and passionate advocate for the strengths of a liberal arts education at St. John's College, including the curriculum, the classroom experience, the unique attributes of each campus, extracurricular life, residential life, and future career success.

Be conversant on federal and institutional financial aid policies and procedures.

Foster a welcoming environment for all prospective students.

Collaborate and coordinate with admissions, financial aid, and other colleagues in Annapolis and in Santa Fe.

Perform administrative core functions to document work and maintain records in a timely manner.

Meet deadlines and goals as set by the Associate Directors, Directors, Assistant Vice President of Enrollment, and Vice President of Enrollment.

Other duties as assigned, including occasional travel in support of homeschool and classical school recruitment.

Supervision Given:

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who meets deadlines and goals, working well both independently with minimal supervision and with a team. The Assistant Director will report to the Vice President of Enrollment or Director of Admissions for International Recruitment.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required. St. John's or other liberal arts college graduate preferred. Background with homeschool or classical schools preferred.

Minimum of 1-4 years of full-time professional experience preferred.

Demonstrate a deep understanding of St. John's and its academic program so as to present it accurately and persuasively to prospective students, oversee volunteers, and represent the Admissions Office as a whole.

Extremely strong communication and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to speak clearly and with confidence in public situations The Assistant Director must be comfortable and skilled at interacting with a wide range of people. The Assistant Director must be collaborative and possess mature judgment.

The Assistant Director must have strong organizational skills, the ability to manage several projects simultaneously, and be capable of overseeing the work of student workers.

Proficiency and expediency in Microsoft Office applications and a willingness to learn admissions databases.

Ability to travel independently for several weeks, including night and weekend work. Must have a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and clean credit report.
