SCHOOL NUTRITION SPECIALIST
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITES
Under the supervision of the School Nutrition Manager, the School Nutrition Specialist provides for the preparation and serving of food in the school cafeteria and for the proper cleaning of kitchen areas.

Assist in food preparation and service to students and school employees.
Assist in kitchen set-up and the preparation of the cafeteria for serving.
Participate in the cleaning and sanitizing of all areas of the kitchen.
Maintain consistency in food preparation and service to students and school employees.
Follow all safety and sanitation guidelines found in the Food Service Operations Manual.
Perform a variety of kitchen duty assignments (e.g., baking, cashier, etc.) as directed by the Cafeteria Manager.
Assist in the receipt and proper storage of all kitchen deliveries.
Actively pursue professional growth activities.
Maintain a clean, neat appearance, appropriate to position.
Adhere to guidelines of confidentiality as outlined in federal and state laws and School Board Policies and Procedures.
Maintain a record of appropriate attendance and punctuality.
Serve as an optimal role model for students, colleagues, and the general public.
Must work in close harmony with colleagues, supervisors, and co-workers.
Comply with all district and school policies and regulations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
General knowledge of materials and methods used in preparing and serving meats, breads, vegetables and other foods on a large scale; general knowledge of the use or care of food preparation equipment; skill in the use of standardized and specialized kitchen utensils and equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, students, and school staff; able to maintain emotional control; ability to work with others in a close fast paced environment and the ability to address customers in a pleasant, courteous manner, basic ability to read and speak/understand English.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A level of education necessary for reading and following written food menus and work schedules. A valid food handler's card issued by the school division. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Some walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling.
Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
Ability to perform tasks in the Walk In Freezer.
Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Ability to be exposed to chemicals.

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt
Terms of Employment: 10 months (may be different at the high school level) in accordance with the Northumberland County School Board calendar.
Evaluation: Evaluation will be conducted in accordance with School Board Policies and Regulations.
