Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), School-Based
Location: DeLand, Florida
Position Goal:
To appraise, protect, and promote the health of the students at assigned school(s) within the scope of practice.
Required Qualifications:
· Licensure as a Practical Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464, or eligibility to practice nursing under the Florida Administrative Code.
· 2 years of experience in pediatrics, public health, or school health.
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Current CPR and first aid certification.
· Valid Florida Driver’s License; if holding another valid U.S. state-issued driver’s license, must obtain a Florida license within 30 days of employment (unless accommodation is required).
Required Skills:
· Ability to administer medications safely and accurately.
· Proficiency in using medical equipment and instruments for skilled nursing procedures.
· Ability to teach selected procedures to students.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding student health issues.
· Strong communication skills with parents, physicians, healthcare workers, faculty, and school administrators.
· Ability to communicate effectively with students at their cognitive level.
· Ability to assist in conducting health assessments.
· Ability to assist in developing and implementing health plans.
Performance Responsibilities:
· Identify, evaluate, and assess student health problems and concerns.
· Coordinate necessary routine medical interventions.
· Provide nursing care and physician-ordered treatments and medications to assigned students.
· Maintain effective and productive operation of the health room and/or treatment sites, including managing clinic supplies.
· Assist with the management of all health problem referrals.
· Serve as a health education resource for school faculty and staff.
· Provide, maintain, and interpret student health records.
· Attend student staffings and participate in the development of individual educational plans as appropriate.
· Maintain accurate nursing documentation for all care, treatments, procedures, and medications.
· Provide health-related in-service programs to school personnel when appropriate.
· Utilize existing health resources to ensure appropriate student care.
· Attend seminars, workshops, and continuing education programs related to school health and nursing practice.
· Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Nursing Supervisor.
