Position Overview

Palo Alto County Health System (PACHS) is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Technologist (MT) to join our Laboratory team. This role is responsible for collecting and analyzing clinical specimens, ensuring accurate test results, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will be committed to quality patient care, possess strong technical skills, and thrive in a collaborative healthcare environment.Key Responsibilities

Collect and process blood, urine, and body fluid specimens using proper techniques.

Perform diagnostic testing across multiple disciplines including hematology, chemistry, microbiology, immunology, and urinalysis.

Operate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.

Accurately report test results, including critical values, and document notifications.

Prepare and send specimens to reference labs; verify and distribute results.

Maintain quality control, calibration, and maintenance records.

Ensure compliance with CLIA, HIPAA, and other regulatory standards.

Provide patient education and instructions for specimen collection.

Participate in training new staff and interns.

Share weekend and on-call responsibilities with other lab staff.

Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment.

Support cost containment by using supplies efficiently and assisting with inventory.Requirements

Associate degree in laboratory science or completion of an accredited MLT program or Bachelors completion of an MT program.

Certification through AMT, ASCP, or NCA preferred.

Must meet CLIA requirements; grandfathered CLT accepted.

Previous laboratory experience preferred.

Ability to perform a wide range of diagnostic tests and procedures.

Strong communication, organizational, and computer skills.

Must live within 15 minutes of the hospital if taking call or be willing to stay on-site.

Willingness to train in additional areas such as blood gas analysis and chain-of-custody collections if needed.

Commitment to accuracy, confidentiality, and professional conduct.

Must maintain certification and complete continuing education.Benefits
