The SMTE role (which stands for Subject Matter Technical Expert) is designed for students who demonstrate strong understanding in specific technical areas and want to deepen their knowledge through practical involvement.

What will your responsibilities be?

Experience with test equipment, the ability to evaluate the structure of materials using various techniques and tools.

Student will work on a projects focused on the evaluation and development of textile materials for automotive applications. The work will involve analyzing material behavior under mechanical stress, identifying damage mechanisms, and proposing improvements in material composition and structure.

Topic 1 - Filament damage:

Evaluation of automotive textile knitted construction materials in relation to the damage/ filament cut from the needle during the sewing process. Find the root cause (major influencing factors & other factors) and proposal of a material composition and construction improve the resistance to damage.

Gather data from for impacted material types ( different customer/projects, database of tested materials, feedback from projects/manufacturing plants)

Define measurement system, testing, evaluation and DVP – Design Verification Plan

Organise / order materials for testing, send to laboratory.

Perform testing/Support testing

Review results using statistical tools

Report status and preventative actions for future development projects

Topic 2 - Rolled material package wrinkles:

The work will be focused on textile polymeric materials or fabric material. It would be welcome if the student had knowledge of computational modeling and simulation of loading of materials focusing on automotive usage and operating load .

Gather data from Cut and Sew plants, measure material roll density / lengths.

Define a measurement standard with supportive DOE – Design of Experiment test plan

Organise / order materials for testing to be performed within our company laboratory.

Test materials pilot then conduct DVP – Design Verification Plan

Review results using statistical tools, set target values.

Create a company work instruction for the laboratory & engineering teams to follow.

Which qualifications are we looking for in potential employees?

Student of the Textile University

Knowledge of the mechanical properties of textile materials

Knowledge of testing methods, data analysis, and computational modeling would be an advantage

English on communicative level

Good MS Office knowledge

Good communication Skills

Good time Management

Responsible and quick learning person

Available for 20 hours per week
