Position Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and organized Research Technician 2 to join our dynamic research team investigating the neuronal circuits that regulate feeding behaviors using genetically engineered mice, as well as the pathogenesis of wooden breast syndrome in chickens. This position is based at our Columbus campus and offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in neuroscience and muscle biology.
The laboratory utilizes a comprehensive array of techniques—including molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, bioinformatics, and behavioral analysis—to explore how the brain coordinates food intake and energy homeostasis, and to uncover the molecular mechanisms underlying muscle myopathy in poultry.
Key Responsibilities:
Animal Model Management (30%)
Coordinate maintenance, breeding, and genotyping of transgenic mouse colonies.
Laboratory Techniques (30%)
Perform molecular biology techniques such as RNA/protein isolation, RT-PCR, Western blotting, cell culture, tissue sectioning, immunohistology, and animal phenotype assessments.
Lab Operations (10%)
Order and maintain lab supplies and equipment.
Ensure compliance with EHS regulations and maintain a clean, safe, and functional lab environment.
Data & Administrative Support (30%)
Enter and manage data using Excel or other database tools.
Assist the Principal Investigator (PI) in preparing reports, abstracts, and publications.
Train and supervise undergraduate work-study students as needed.
Qualifications:
Required:
High school diploma or GED.
Minimum of 1 year of relevant laboratory experience.
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, neuroscience, animal science, or a related field.
2–4 years of relevant experience.
Background in neuroscience and/or muscle biology research.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
Highly motivated, enthusiastic, and intellectually curious.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Willingness to learn new techniques, especially in behavioral analysis, metabolic evaluation, and cell culture.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, and Illustrator is a plus.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research setting.
