The Office of Undergraduate Admissions at The Ohio State University is a dynamic and exciting place to work. This position offers an opportunity to strategically impact the future of Ohio State through the recruitment, admission, and support of outstanding students as the Outreach and Recruitment team is responsible for recruiting prospective students to The Ohio State University. The Assistant Director for rural student recruitment reports to the associate director for domestic outreach and recruitment. The individual will be located in the Student Academic Services Building and will work closely and alongside a team of full-time staff members of approximately 30 and a broader Undergraduate Admissions team of 55. Peak seasons are typically August through May given the cyclical nature of the work supported across Undergraduate Admissions. In office work hours can range from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, but will require early morning, evening, and weekend hours at various times during the year given the role's direct work with outreach and recruitment programs.
This is a term (four years) grant funded position.
Detailed Position Description
As a member of the Undergraduate Admissions team the Assistant Director will spend the greatest amount of time through the year performing the following job responsibilities; Implements strategy, plans, executes, and contributes to evaluation and building rural and small town student outreach and recruitment efforts for targeted populations; works collaboratively with members of undergraduate admissions to utilize data to understand population and collaborate on implementation of the data to have direct impacts on outreach and recruitment efforts, with a particular focus on reducing the number of targeted rural counties in Ohio that have small enrollment contributions; participates in and provides oversight to the development, implementation, and evaluation of new outreach and recruitment efforts in collaboration with internal and external partners including email journeys, mailings, publications, video, text, and websites; manages the operational budget of designated area; works collaboratively with campus partners and the visits and events team to develop strategy and plan for in-person and virtual campus visits for rural, small town, and first generation prospective students, family members and school counselors. Develops an advisory board to guide our efforts and expand our network, hosting in person or virtual meetings each semester. Hires, trains, supervises, coaches and mentors 2-3 student workers who can support the efforts of outreach and recruitment for rural, small town, and first-generation students, motivates and encourages staff to help set priorities, provide excellent customer services, and supports staff in their own development. Collaborates with the recruitment team on building strategy for high school and community-based organization engagement focused on rural and small town; executes territory specific programs and events in collaboration with partner offices using data, reports and analysis tools/technology to inform approach and needs. Collaborates and builds relationships with partner offices and engages in and promotes partnership and program development with internal and external constituents. Travels to and coordinates office visits to in state high schools and program centers to represent Ohio State and associated programs. Possible travel up to 2-4 weeks per year. Makes recruitment calls to prospective students in collaboration with partner offices. Analyzes prospective student data. Learns and uses the Empowering Market Analysis (EMA), CRM (Salesforce), Student Information System, and other technologies to perform timely and accurate entries into databases regarding student application information, call/email activity and other processes, performs data validation and manages electronic workflows. Serves in place of associate director at designated meetings and programs and serves as office recruitment contact and representative for the STARS Network and related programs;
Additional responsibilities the Assistant Director will be responsible for include but are not limited to; Counsels and corresponds with students, families, university departments, or other stakeholders regarding Ohio State admission policies, procedures, and general information over the phone, via email, and in person. Conducts large and small-group presentations. Learns and maintains knowledge of the areas within the office and university to best direct questions from staff and guests. Researches and resolves problems.
Reviews applications (domestic, international, transfer, special population, special program) and makes admissions recommendations through our holistic application review process that fluctuates through the year.
Assists with on and off campus recruitment events and projects. Evening and weekend hours required. Coordinate recruitment for special programs, as assigned. Provides support to partner offices and programs and access on/off campus programs and initiatives.
Participate as an active member of Undergraduate Admissions through membership on committees.
Completes special assignments and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
-Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
-Four years of experience in student recruitment or related field
-Program planning and implementation
-Demonstrated ability to collaborate and resolve conflicts
-Demonstrated understanding of rural and small town students
-Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills

Salary range for this position is $55,700 – $72,700.
The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit’s available budget, and the candidate’s qualifications.
