FULL TIME ER RECEPTIONIST, 12 HOUR SHIFTS - SATURDAY, SUNDAY, MONDAY NIGHT SHIFT (6PM - 6AM). ROTATING HOLIDAYS.

JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Emergency Room Receptionist
DEPARTMENT: Emergency Department
REPORTS TO: Emergency Department Director SUPERVISES: None
EFFECTIVE DATE: February 1, 2025
General Objective:
Support HCMH mission, vision, and values at all times.
Collect and enter accurate data in a friendly and efficient manner to begin the process of creating a medical record and complete the full registration process.
Answering and directing phone calls in a friendly, efficient manner to the appropriate destination.
This position can be combined with any other Emergency Department functions as necessary for the needs of the department.
SIGNIFICANT DUTIES:
Duties as switchboard operator and receptionist.
Processes incoming and outgoing telephone calls efficiently, politely, accurately, and as quickly as possible.
Utilize overhead paging system announcements and codes with clarity and in a calm manner.
Releases patient information as permitted by hospital policy.
Greets customers proactively with a smile and arranges for them to be escorted to their destination.
Functions as “one call” representative for outgoing transfers from TRMC.
Will obtain necessary patient information to initiate transfers from caller requesting the transfer and create an outpatient encounter in EPIC with patient demographics and coverages.
Will notify the on-call EMS crew of the transfer along with the truck number.
Monitor security cameras at the hospital entrances and facilitate appropriate response if someone presents to one of these entrances after hours.
To include contacting law enforcement if necessary.
Monitor hospital wide alarms (fire panel, generators etc.) and contact appropriate personnel to respond should one of the alarms be triggered.
Duties as registration representative.
Maintains confidentiality regarding patient, employee, and hospital information through personal conduct or referral to appropriate resources.
Interviews patients or representatives to obtain complete and accurate information on the admission record. Obtains identification and supporting documentation, such as but not limited to insurance cards, driver’s license, employment information, etc. for patient ID and name changes
Obtains signatures on medical and financial documents.
Scans necessary documents into patient’s chart as applicable.
Prepares identification wristbands/labels for patient identification.
Distributes registration documents to medical records, ancillary departments, nurses’ stations, and other necessary departments.
Arranges for escort of patient to room (inpatient) or to appropriate ancillary department (outpatient).
Enter necessary changes on computer for updated demographic or billing information and status changes if applicable.
Ensures all patients are registered before discharge, prioritizing registrations during periods of high volume.
Meets registrations standards goals and expectations set by Revenue Cycle Manager and department.
Uses interpersonal skills effectively to build and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Works and communicates in a positive, courteous and cooperative manner with all personnel, patients, and their families when providing information and services, seeking assistance and clarification and resolving problems.
Carries out assignments responsibly, accurately, and efficiently. Takes responsibility for actions.
Participates in a positive and cooperative manner during office meetings and mandatory in-services and contributes to a team effort.
Assures a tactful, personable approach in dealing with issues. Demonstrates a willingness and an ability to receive / give constructive feedback.

Assists the Emergency Department with special projects or assignments as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
EPIC with Medical office experience is preferred.
Skills:
Excellent communication, telephone, and customer service skills required.
Proficient typing and computer skills required.
Must speak and read English fluently.
Medical terminology knowledge is helpful.
Must be able to operate standard office equipment efficiently. (Copy machine, fax, scanner, etc.)
