POSITION SUMMARY

The specialist supports volunteer and program strategy and management for ASH award programs including the Fight for Hematology, a two-year initiative, cross cutting strategic initiative and associated projects. They will provide subject matter expertise and program management for related award initiatives. The specialist is a key member of the department staff supporting the Society’s goals of recruiting and retaining individuals in hematology-related fields, particularly as it relates to the current environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides project management support including distinct one-time projects as well as operational activity.

Supports the Senior Director for all activity related to the Fight 4 Hematology Initiative

Supports related strategic and cross-cutting projects relevant to the department. Areas of focus include:

New program development

Volunteer engagement

Career development programming

Process and program refinements

Serves as department support for relevant volunteer leadership groups including committees, subcommittees, task forces, and working groups. Supports strategy, manages relationships, leads response to action items.

Supports strategy and volunteer management for the Awards Review Subcommittee, Training Awards Subcommittee and the Women in Hematology Subcommittee.

Identifies and develops opportunities for program improvement and operational efficiencies.

Collaborates across the Learning Department in support of survey methodology, data collection, management, analysis, and evaluation activities.

Collaborates with department staff on cross departmental initiatives.

Building communities within and across departmental programs.

Strengthening mentorship within and across departmental programs.

Establishing ‘next step’ engagement opportunities for program alumni.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED

Bachelor’s degree required.

Minimum of three years of relevant work experience required.

Project management experience and skills required.

Experience coordinating awards, scholarship/fellowship, mentorship, or grants programs required.

Knowledge of professional associations, especially medical societies, is strongly preferred.

Familiarity with the barriers that prevent the full participation and advancement of all, in biomedical research desired.

We value candidates with a keen interest in survey design, data management, data analysis, and evaluation. While not required, experience or familiarity with the following areas is highly desirable:

Ability to systematically collect, structure, and maintain data using spreadsheets, databases, or survey software, ensuring data is accurate, accessible, and ready for analysis.

Ability to approach problems using data-driven frameworks and logical reasoning, including formulating hypotheses, interpreting results, and drawing actionable insights from data.

Knowledge of survey methodology, which encompasses question design, sampling, data collection, and analysis techniques to ensure accuracy and reliability of results.

Ability to craft clear, unbiased, and purposeful survey questions that directly align with the objectives of the program. Skilled in selecting appropriate question types and wording to ensure accurate, actionable, and meaningful

Analytical skills with knowledge of and experience with descriptive, inferential, qualitative, and quantitative analysis, statistical and analysis packages for analyzing large datasets, data stores, and building data models.

Knowledge of information design principles and data visualization methods to communicate findings clearly and effectively in PowerPoint and report formats.

Willingness to learn the use of relational databases

Demonstrated alumni relations or similar experience desired.

Detail and customer service oriented with excellent organizational skills.

Able to do meticulous work carefully and accurately.

Strong interpersonal and oral/written communication skills.

Excellent analytical, technical and project management skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, databases, and Internet.

Positive, proactive work attitude and ambitious self-starter able to excel in fast-moving work environment with changing priorities.

Possess excellent time management, organizational and interpersonal/communication skills.

Able to work well under deadlines and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Demonstrate the highest degree of professionalism when dealing with members.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires manual labor for administrative support (e.g. mobility for mail dissemination and file maintenance, standing for materials compilation).

Requires ability to speak audibly and listen actively. May require overtime for project support.

Will require minimal air travel.
