What you'll do
Under the supervision of the Director, Ambulatory Nursing the Supervisor Clinic Nursing Practice is responsible for creating and implementing nursing procedures to foster a productive and quality-driven work environment while planning, prioritizing and assigning health care tasks to clinical support team members. The Supervisor Clinic Nursing Practice functions as a resource to caregivers and is accountable for the promotion of professional growth, competency planning and validation, and performance evaluations. This individual will assist in the development of systems that maximize patient service, safety, quality care and provider efficiency. In addition, the Supervisor Clinic Nursing Practice will assist in departmental quality assurance, performance improvement, and regulatory compliance activities under the direction of the Medical Director/Chief, Director, Ambulatory Nursing, and/or the Practice Manager.
Oversees and participates in orientation of new Caregivers and conducts an annual assessment of the program, suggesting modification as needed to enhance skill and increase efficiency
Makes daily assignment for all nursing Caregivers, drafts work schedules, arranges coverage and monitors performance
Recommends proposals to improve clinic efficiency, productivity or expand nursing services
Delegates responsibilities to nursing and clinic Caregivers as appropriate to their level of education and skill in accordance with assessed patient needs
Initiates continuing education seminars, presentations and in-services for Caregivers, utilizing appropriate Bassett Healthcare personnel; conducts an annual assessment of the educational needs of the clinic Caregivers
Initiates and participates in development and/or revisions of nursing policies and procedures, including treatment and medication administration protocols
Facilitates QA/QI initiatives as requested
Implements and maintains procedures for application of the nursing process, including nursing triage, in the outpatient setting on an ongoing basis based on periodic review by the Director, Ambulatory Nursing
Works with master scheduler to schedule immunization clinics efficiently
Counsel nursing/lab staff on their performance and interpersonal relationships, takes disciplinary action as needed, assists Caregivers in overcoming deficiencies and ensure success of staff in achieving objectives. Review critical errors with Director, Ambulatory Nursing
Completes performance evaluations on a timely basis according to policy, seeking input from providers, Practice Supervisor/Manager, peer and self-evaluations
Recommends and assists in justifying staffing needs, interviews and assesses candidates. Collaborates with Practice Manager for employment requisitions for nursing/lab staff. Works with Talent Acquisition to schedule interviews
Assists in developing and up-dating standards for Caregivers
Assures compliance with regulatory agency codes, licensing, professional standards and continuing educational needs
Utilizes principles of the nursing process in meeting patient age specific needs with regard to safety, hygiene, nutrition and medication administration while also attending to psychosocial, physiological, spiritual and emotional needs
Assesses patient needs, plans nursing care and coordinates this care with other components of the health care system. Implements or guides the nursing intervention and evaluates results
Conducts/coordinates outpatient diagnostic and therapeutic testing according to established protocols in conjunction with the physician
Provides appropriate patient and family teaching and support (i.e. explains treatments and procedures, answers patient questions).
During periods of short staffing, or increased patient needs, rearranges assignments and delegates duties. Functions in staff nurse capacity to ensure quality patient care and safety
Expands competencies by attending continuing education programs evidenced by attendance documents presented to Director, Ambulatory Nursing
Assists in the development of effective interdepartmental working relationships in order that all patient care systems and processes function smoothly with respect to patients and internal customers
Serves as an example to staff in work habits, teambuilding, compassionate service to patients and colleagues, and support to providers
Serves as a resource to manager, supervisor, team leader, providers, and other department members for problem solving and information regarding nursing practice and daily clinic workflows
Addresses patient complaints competently as requested
Uses layperson’s language when speaking to patients and family, asking patient if they have questions and repeating instructions as often as necessary
Demonstrates accountability including efficient use of resources
Demonstrates effective and appropriate time management and organizational skills related to patient care and clinic workflows
Identifies opportunities for improvement, offers solutions and responds positively to clinical and operational changes. Actively participates in the development of same
Uses resources efficiently considering cost in planning and delivering care. Offers alternatives when indicated
Promotes the productivity of providers and provides or delegates care to be provided to the patients in an organized manner
Ensure supply levels are adequate for daily use and works collaboratively with manager, supervisor, warehouse and staff to adjust and maintain PAR levels
Communicates appropriately with internal and external customers
Assures nursing staff is well informed of hospital events and policies affecting the clinic
Attends meetings and serves on committees appropriate to nursing practices and shares pertinent information with appropriate Caregivers
Ensures that patient and Caregiver information is kept private and confidential; ensures that Caregivers follow privacy policies
Performs other duties as requested
What we need from you
Education/Qualifications:
2 Year/Associate Degree in Nursing, required
*** All RN’s hired and do not currently hold a BSN will be expected to demonstrate enrollment in a bachelor’s prepared nursing program within 4 years of hire. BSN must be completed within 10 years. RN’s licensed on or before 12/19/17 are/remain exempt from this requirement
Vocational/Technical Diploma Professional Nursing Program, required
4 Year/Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, preferred
Experience:
3 years Nursing experience, required
Supervisory or management experience, preferred
Licensure/Certificates:
NYS License as a Registered Nurse, required

Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards.
