This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Accountant who will be all-in on our mission and who will perform advanced professional accounting responsibilities in support of the Business Office, including the preparation and posting of journal entries, monthly bank reconciliations, financial reporting, and assistance with audits and special projects.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Required: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited institution.

Preferred: Master’s degree in Accounting or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE:

Required: One (1) year of accounting experience.

Preferred: Two (2) or more years of accounting experience.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Prepare, record, and reconcile monthly journal entries with a high degree of accuracy and timeliness.

Complete monthly bank reconciliations for all 11 Amarillo College bank accounts.

Prepare monthly auxiliary financial reports for management.

Ensure proper support and organization for transactions at FirstBank Southwest Center while preparing uploads and posting transactions daily.

Provide mentorship and cross-training to other staff members as necessary.

Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Assist in special projects and year-end audit preparation.

Support Associate Vice President of Business Affairs with Amarillo College Foundation accounting functions as needed.

Complete reports and journal entries to reflect expenses.

Conduct all necessary cash audits for departments and campuses

Assist with general accounting duties in the Business Office.

Assist with the annual audit and provide necessary paperwork and reports to internal and external users.

Perform other work-related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy in financial reporting.

Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., VLOOKUPs, PivotTables).

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a focus on customer service.

Ability to work collaboratively across departments and support a positive team culture.

Professional demeanor with a commitment to integrity and a job well done.

Salary: Amarillo College follows a lag pay strategy, with starting offers typically between the minimum and midpoint of the pay grade, rarely reaching the maximum to support long-term growth within each position.

Pay grade 11 Amarillo College Pay Grades (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed.

Working Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.)

Work Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines, filing cabinets) and is in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office, Colleague, and various other educational applications. Work may also be performed outside of the office and with little to no supervision.
