As a member of the IT Management Team, you are responsible for managing, developing, and leading a team of employees. Your role includes leading the specific functional responsibilities of your team, which involves overseeing team performance and deliverables. However, your role as a leader within our organization requires more than the management of resources and day-to-day operations. As a steward of the company, you are charged with the development and execution of your team’s strategic vision and plan and ensuring that your team’s actions align with the larger goals of the company and the IT Division.

The Manager of Costco’s SAP Global Platform Basis Operations is responsible for directing the efforts of Basis Engineers and Analysts in support of our production SAP platforms in the US and EU. The current SAP Production landscape hosts Membership, Financials, Employee Portal, Vendor Portal, Extended Warehouse Management and Payroll. This manager will oversee the development and implementation of standards documentation, process documentation, as well as driving process improvement through automation. The successful candidate is a progressive leader who is self-motivated, who will ensure process coordination across teams, is customer focused, and has an established history of successful process improvement and innovation.

ROLE

ADMINISTRATION: Ensures proper department coverage (writing schedule and break aids if needed). Understands department budget, able to research and explain budget variances.

MANAGING PERFORMANCE: Coaches and mentors’ employees to provide support and guidance. Has regular open and honest conversations with employees to discuss work performance and career development. Identifies learning opportunities to strengthen employee knowledge, skill and ability.

COMMUNICATION: Regularly shares information with employees via meetings and one-on-one conversations. Successfully navigates difficult conversations with employees, members, and suppliers. Listens, expresses empathy and adapts to get points across. Addresses issues immediately to ensure a timely resolution and to avoid escalating the situation. Consistently demonstrates business knowledge during interactions with senior management.

SELF-MANAGEMENT: Demonstrates sound judgment, taking a partner when necessary. Ability to maintain self-control in the face of hostility or provocation or in intense, hectic situations.

Leads a team of SAP Basis Analysts and Engineers dedicated to providing top-tier service to our customers.

Provides training, encouragement, coaching, and feedback to their employees. Evaluates employee performance and provides coaching to meet department, business, and company procedures and standards.

Responds to employee concerns using problem-solving skills, tact, and discretion in accordance with the Costco Employee Agreement and other applicable regulations.

Develops and maintains a positive team atmosphere through communication and mentoring. Establishes new ways of acknowledging positive performance to support employee morale.

Reviews output, monitors workload, and sets standards for productivity and accuracy. Conducts yearly performance reviews and provides regular coaching and training to all staff.

Reviews applicant submissions for job postings, conducts interviews, and makes recommendations regarding hiring status.

Coordinates with SAP Operations and Project Support to maintain and foster a sense of urgency within the team and the organization.

Collaborates and communicates effectively with vertical and horizontal teams.

Communicates effectively with all levels of management.

Performs analysis of current processes and leads efforts for continual process improvement.

Develops metrics and KPIs to track and reduce unplanned downtime.

Provides support to Costco's ERP platform, running Finance, Membership, Payroll, etc., in the US and EU regions.

This is a full-time management/leadership position (45+ hours per week).

REQUIRED

10+ Years of SAP Platform experience.

3+ Years of Management experience.

Proven leadership and team-building skills, and experience in process development, and continuous improvement.

Extensive SAP Basis expertise, including SAP architecture and integration with third party applications.

Experience managing SAP HANA, including backup/recovery, high availability (HA), disaster recovery (DR), and performance optimization.

Proficiency in SAP infrastructure management, including storage, networking, and virtualization in cloud and hybrid environments.

Experience in developing and executing a long-term SAP infrastructure strategy, including automation, cloud adoption, and modernization initiatives.

Proven experience in working in a framework, driving stability and governance in SAP operations.

Leadership in managing onshore and offshore Basis/Linux teams, providing mentorship, guidance, and technical escalation support.

Demonstrated architecture and design expertise with SAP applications, enterprise servers, storage, and networking projects supporting SAP in large-scale environments.

Proven ability to build trusting and lasting relationships with stakeholders.

Innovative, creative, and able to create long-term strategies with a big picture mindset.

Established ability to understand complex systems quickly.

Ability to work on many tasks simultaneously in a high-pressure environment.

Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Proven ability to identify and remove impediments that block the team to meet project objectives.

Ability to collaborate across teams, working closely with peers to ensure the appropriate focus and sense of urgency is applied to any and all issues.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to troubleshoot or resolve project related issues with executive leadership, business stakeholders, and cross technical and functional IT teams.

Strong organizational skills.

Experience in managing using performance and technical metrics, and driving a team to produce results.

Scheduling flexibility to meet the needs of the business, including weekends, holidays, and 24/7 on call responsibilities on a rotational basis.

HIPAA Training and Supervisors Orientation (within 30 days of hire); Leadership Development 101 (within one year); Costco Pay Policies (within 90 days of promotion).

Pay Range: $137,000 - $200,000, Bonus and Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) eligible
