Mainframe System Programmer - Remote

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Mainframe Infrastructure Systems Programmer to join our IT team and support our mission-critical mainframe environment.

Job Summary:

The Mainframe Infrastructure Systems Programmer is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and optimization of mainframe systems and related infrastructure. This role ensures the stability, performance, and security of our IBM z/OS environment, supporting business-critical applications and services.

Key Responsibilities:

Install, configure, and maintain IBM z/OS operating systems and related software products.

Monitor and optimize mainframe system performance, capacity, and availability.

Implement and manage system upgrades, patches, and maintenance releases.

Troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues, ensuring minimal downtime.

Configure and support mainframe subsystems (e.g., CICS, DB2, IMS, or JES2).

Ensure system security by implementing and maintaining security policies and access controls.

Collaborate with application developers, database administrators, and other IT teams to support business needs.

Document system configurations, procedures, and incident resolutions.

Participate in disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution.

Stay current with mainframe technologies and industry best practices.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).

5+ years of experience as a Mainframe Systems Programmer or similar role.

Expertise in IBM z/OS, z/VM, or z/Linux environments.

Strong knowledge of mainframe software, including CICS, DB2, IMS, JES2, or RACF.

Proficiency in JCL, TSO/ISPF, and SMP/E for software installation and maintenance.

Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Ability to work on-call or during non-standard hours as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of automation tools (e.g., REXX, CLIST, or Ansible).

Certification in IBM System z or related technologies.

Familiarity with cloud integration or hybrid mainframe environmentsCompany Description
