MTRL (pronounced "material") is a furniture design studio comprised of six people focused on creating custom commercial furniture for world-class clients such as Google, Apple, Netflix, and others. SUMMARY
We are looking for a hands-on Process Optimization Engineer who will identify and implement improvements across our warehouse and fulfillment operations. This person will develop and own processes that reduce shipment errors, improve inventory visibility, and enhance overall warehouse efficiency, and ensure on time delivery. The ideal candidate has a background in mechanical or industrial engineering, a process mindset, a strong interest in operations and leadership aspirations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Audit current warehouse and shipping workflows; identify points of failure and inefficiency
Implement systems for inventory tracking, hardware pack verification, and order completeness
Develop and document SOPs, visual aids, and checklists for warehouse tasks
Design or improve workstation layouts, labeling systems, and product staging areas
Work cross-functionally with design and engineering to ensure proper documentation and BOMs
Build tracking tools inside our ERP (Kinabase) to tie materials to project status
Train warehouse staff on process improvements and participate in prebuild meetings
Analyze damage and error trends; implement preventative changes to packaging, kitting, and shipping workflows
Support shipping logistics, labeling, and outgoing order audits as needed
Lead by example on the floor to reinforce process changes and team accountability
Assist in hands-on tasks such as packing orders, staging components, and inspecting shipments during high-volume periods
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field
5 years experience in process optimization engineering, production management or general operations
Proven experience improving physical workflows, SOPs, or production lines
Ability to thrive in a dynamic, hands-on environment with shifting priorities
Comfortable working around tools, furniture parts, and in warehouse environments
Familiarity with ERP systems, spreadsheets, and process mapping tools
Strong communication and collaboration skills across role
Experience with warehouse or logistics workflows
Knowledge of lean manufacturing or 5S principles
NICE TO HAVE
Background in high-mix low-volume production
CAD experience (Fusion 360 or similar)

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This is an in-person role with on-the-floor implementation. The environment involves physical materials, warehouse conditions, and cross-functional collaboration with warehouse, operations, and engineering personnel. Position based in Ontario, CA.
