Job Description
The Accountant is responsible for general accounting duties, including billing customers, preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations. This position requires solid understanding of the business, its financial reporting needs, its concepts and their applications, as well as ability to review and analyze information. This position will also confirm and upload contract pricing into the ERP system and assist with special projects as needed.
Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for timely and accurate month-end accounting close and associated tasks
Prepare related account reconciliations and review General Ledger account balances for compliance with GAAP and internal controls
Seek opportunities to streamline and improve accounting transactions and work with the business to provide accounting and analytical support to meet internal customer needs
Investigate troubled accounts, communicate problems and provide solutions
Generate and issue invoices to customers based on contractual terms and services rendered.
Maintain and update inventory and billing records in the accounting system.
Work closely with operations team to ensure accurate inventory counts.
Reconcile billing discrepancies and address any billing inquiries from customers.
Respond to customer inquiries regarding invoices and account balances.
Work closely with Accounts Receivable team to monitor and follow up on outstanding invoices to ensure timely payment.
Prepare and distribute billing reports and summaries to management.
Assist the accounting team with other tasks as needed.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive data
Self-starter and strong ethical standards
Strong attention to detail and a desire to assume new responsibilities
Strong PC skills including intermediate knowledge of Excel (i.e. VLOOKUP, pivot table)
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, procedures and application
Must have the ability to make decisions, appear for work on time, follow directions, interact well with co-workers, understand and follow posted work rules/procedures and to accept constructive criticism
Strong attention to detail and a desire to assume new responsibilities
Organization, attention to detail and the ability to analyze data
Required Education and Experience
Associates degree in Accounting or Finance; Bachelor's degree preferred
1 year General Accounting experience preferred, but would consider a recent graduate
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
Experience with billing or accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle).
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Food or Logistics industry experience is a plus
