The Opportunity
The Retail Sales organization is accountable for the direct sales of the Division’s nutritional products to retailers, wholesalers, and U.S. military commissaries and exchanges. The Nutritional brands represented include: Similac, Pedialyte, PediaSure, Ensure, Glucerna and Protality. The Retail Sales Department generates over 85% of Divisional income with total dollars that exceed $3B annually. Retail Sales supports Divisional business objectives and forges strong strategic business alliances with key retail customers.
The Retail Development Program (RDP) provides high-potential entry-level Abbott Nutrition employees with the opportunity to gain skills and experiences through challenging assignments across multiples disciplines within Retail Sales. The RDP will have extensive training and exposure to multiple Consumer Package Goods (CPG) disciplines within Abbott Nutrition. The areas of focus could include: Direct Sales, Category Management, Shopper Marketing, Sales Analytics, Supply Chain, and Retail Operations. The RDP’s primary objective is to successfully complete two challenging assignments that span a maximum of 2.5 years. Each assignment will be 6-18 months in length and located in one of the following markets: Columbus OH, Cincinnati OH, Minneapolis MN, and Bentonville AR.
What You’ll Work On
PHASE I
The first assignment is in Retail Operations.
This position will primarily be field-based in the assigned retail stores.
The objective of this position will be the merchandising/distribution of consumer and nutritional products to food, drug and mass merchandiser retail stores within the defined geographic area assigned.
The RDP will develop their territory to increase off-shelf distribution and eliminate out-of-stocks, which will ultimately increase sales and establish productive account relationships.
PHASE II
The second assignment will be meaningful and challenging projects which will vary based on specific Abbott Nutrition business needs.
This position will be office-based within a team environment.
The objective of this position is to enhance business acumen with heavy focus on building strong technical and analytical capabilities.
RDPs will also be responsible for a Retail customer to introduce Account Management skills.
Rotation through the Retail Development Program does not guarantee placement in the organization.
Progression to next-level role will be determined by performance within each assignment.
The RDP will have a unique Assignment Manager and Mentor for each phase of the program.
Required Qualifications
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong analytical ability.
Good judgment, planning and organization skills, high work standards, energy, initiative, flexibility, demonstrated leadership and proven problem-solving skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Microsoft Outlook.
B.S. or B.A. degree required.
