General Description:

Education Advisor shall advise active duty AF personnel on all programs available through voluntary off-duty education, the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF), Defense Activity for Non Traditional Education Support (DANTES), AF Institute of Advanced Distributive Learning (AFIADL), officer accession programs and other educational support programs as required by the Education and Training Services (E&TS) Chief.

Specific Tasks:

• Keeps the E&TS Chief current on all program and catalog changes and advises affected students promptly.

• Advise AF personnel of Professional Military Education (SNCOA, SOS, AFIT, ACSC, and AWC) programs available for enlisted personnel and officers by correspondence, in residence or seminar format and assists them in registering for appropriate programs. Performs briefings internally and externally as required.

• Direct customers to the specific commissioning program POC for information and required forms to prospective applicants of specialized AF programs to include, but no necessarily limited to, Airman Enlisted Commissioning Program (AECP), Leaders Encouraging Airman

Development (LEAD), Scholarships for Outstanding Airmen to ROTC (SOAR), Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC/ASCP), and Officer Training School (OTS).

• Refer customers to the appropriate information regarding, federal financial assistance programs, local scholarships, and Air Force Aid Society grants to all eligible personnel. Assists students with completion of all applicable forms and/or applications. Processes MilTA forms via the AFAEMS.

• Refer students to the appropriate academic institution representative for registration and enrollment in courses or programs that pertain to their education goals.

• Advise students of DANTES tests that are applicable to their programs of study. Administers and interprets pretests and non-timed interest and placement tests as appropriate to the individual counseling process.

• Assist students in changing education level codes by preparing appropriate correspondence, forms, and academic documentation required to update individual AF personnel records with their current educational status. After document verification by an E&TS Chief or designated representative, forwards information to the appropriate agency via mail, fax, or computer, as available. Processes 968s to CCAF as appropriate.

• Conduct follow-up activities through a variety of methods including but not limited to telephone calls, mail-outs, emails, etc., to ensure individual student educational objectives are being met.

• Responsible for preparing all necessary correspondence and forms and maintaining related records and logs required to support all aspects of job tasks.

• Maintain statistical data for a wide variety of headquarters and MAJCOM reports, which include but is not limited to Tuition Assistance Attendance, CCAF Data, Commissioning Data, Outreach Data, as required by the ET&S Chief and assists with reports and other administrative tasks, as requested.

• Utilize the AFAEMS to maintain individual student records.

• Assist the reception desk with walk-in and telephone customers, as needed.

• Assist with publishing weekly education newspaper articles, updating the Education Opportunities brochure and maintaining the local Base Training and Education Services (BTES) web site, as needed.

• Assist with accounting spreadsheet entries, MilTA form verifications, monthly metrics, publicity materials, survey collection and compilation, filing and other program-related administrative work, as needed. Advises service members of CCAF Web Progress Report and verifies course applicability towards CCAF completion.


• A Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited American college or university is required.

• Master’s degree with 15-30 semester hours in counseling, secondary education or a related discipline is highly desired.


• Minimum of six (6) to 12 months’ experience as an AF Education Advisor is preferred.

• Working knowledge of the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF), degree plan is required.

• Appropriate related professional work or volunteer experience of at least 1 (one) year is required.

• Knowledge of/experience with AF terminology, office procedures, and education programs (including but not limited to Air Force Automated Education Management System, (AFAEMS), AF Commissioning, CCAF, Defense Activity for Non Traditional Education Support (DANTES) Testing, Tuition Assistance (MilTA), Degree Plans, Scholarships/Grants plus familiarity/facility with Windows 10, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access is desirable.
