Job Summary:

This role is responsible for facilitating the procurement of materials and related services required by the company and the customers we serve. The position requires frequent interaction, coordination and timely communication with Planning, Production, Customer Service, Engineering, and Quality control. Additionally, this role requires the individual to employ strategies to strengthen the company’s supply chain, solve shortage issue and reinforce quality supplier relationships.

Job Responsibilities:

> Obtain materials, components and equipment, as required by the MRP. Track progress and expedite when necessary.

> Establish and maintain relations with suppliers and their appropriate representatives.

> Ensure that appropriate corrective and preventative actions are implemented for any supplier-related production interruptions. (i.e., on time delivery, quality)

> Monitor supplier’s performances and manage all aspects of supplier relationships and development.

> Participate in cross-functional teams and work with Operations to understand material/service requirements, clarify specific deliverables and ensure compliance with company standards and processes.

> Manage purchase from end to end such as crating RFQs, issuing and following-up with suppliers for confirmation, placing purchase orders and continued support.

> Verify data accuracy and report problems to appropriate team members

> Identify problems or challenges proactively and offer possible solutions, escalate when appropriate.

> Track progress of parts to ensure time schedules will be met, expedite orders as necessary.

> Implement improvement processes to reduce inventory and non-value add work

> Monitor, analyze and report material variances to standard cost. Interface with Accounting, Manufacturing Engineering and Production to establish costs.

> Responsible for optimizing material costs through vendor analysis, quality, schedule, cost evaluation, etc. Apply cost effective measures as related to support standard cost and make/buy decisions.

> Work closely with Planning team on timely information needed in support of the customer.

> Establish strategies to improve supply chain, solve shortage issues and strengthen supplier relationships

> Manage OTD/Quality issues that arise and respond accordingly.

> Maintain an awareness of materials and procurement concepts.

> Manage the relationship between the company and suppliers’ technical members.

> Develop market knowledge and contacts for technology associated with the build of customer products.

> Serve as the primary liaison between the company and the supplier in the event of any technical or commercial conflicts arise (quality or delivery issues, pricing errors).

> Coordinate supplier qualification process including commercial, technical and compliance (IS9000) matters.

> Prepare bid analysis and negotiate purchasing contracts.

> Use available tools to identify and evaluate prospective suppliers for all different types of parts.

> Manage inventory to support company objectives while balancing customer requirements.

> Maintain an awareness of material and procurement concepts.

Knowledge/Skills/Experience:

> Strong mechanical knowledge and ability to read technical drawings

> Ability to train/mentor others.

> Demonstrated ability to see “big picture” and keep a pulse on the market conditions and impact to the supply chain and to the company.

> Knowledge of material costing for customer quotations, required.

> Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.

> Excellent communication skills.

> Effective time management skills.

> Demonstration of strong decision making skills and ability to weigh all pertinent information.

> Tact, discretion and persuasive skill is often required to obtain cooperation to achieve business objectives.

> Customer service oriented and the ability to understand the needs of the customer and meet delivery requirements.

> Detail oriented and self-motivated.

> Strong organizational and negotiation skills.

> Highly proficient with MS office suite (Outlook email, excel)

Education/Certification:

> Bachelor’s degree in business or related field

> Minimum 7 years experience as a Buyer, preferably in a Manufacturing

> Direct experience in using an MRP system, maintenance of a P/N system

> APICS certification preferred
