Rio tinto seeks to appoint a person whose principal function will be to successfully plan, implement, manage and run all the finance related activities for the Group and it’s subsidiary as well as to protect the company’s revenues and profits to achieve full financial control and sustainable growth.

Key Performance Areas will include financial planning, income and balance sheet reporting, statutory compliance and reporting, overseeing internal and external audits, budgeting development and execution, commercial agreements, payroll, cashflow management and projection, break-even analysis, financial analysis and submission of financial and sales reports to the Management as well as the development and implementation of relevant financial systems/models.

The successful incumbent will also be required to supervise a small team as well as demonstrate a creative inclination towards critical analysis and interrogation of numbers from an operational perspective, with the intention to elevate the business to the next level of viability.

Cost & Management Accounting is a critical focus area of this role.

The ideal candidate should have excellent financial management skills, VAT and SARS knowledge, strong computing skills including Microsoft Office suite and in particular Excel and Sage 3.

A self-starter with a positive attitude, a strong awareness of the insurance industry and demonstration of analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities will be favourably considered.

A Professionalism and pronounced ethical orientation are significant requirements for this role.

The role requires more than just statutory compliance, but rather an engaged and motivated disposition and a commitment to understanding the business intricately, in order to make rational and creative inputs to the financial running of the business.

The candidate must have a code 08 Driver’s license and a relevant financial qualification at University level, ideally B.

Comm (Accounting, Finance or Economics); MBA will be an advantage.

Professional registration as CPA or CA will be highly desirable.

Accounting and at minimum, 10 years financial management experience in a similar role are further pre-requisites.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the Insurance industry.

Management and leadership of a team at a senior level, demonstrated financial excellence and business acumen, experience with Corporate Governance and hands on experience with risk management are further requirements.
