Lab Technician

We are looking for a person with broad “maker-like” skills and organizational abilities to support an automation design team in the Apple Reliability Labs. The position requires a self-motivated individual with machine shop and rapid prototyping experience. Experience with solid modeling and light mechanical design is required. Hands-on experience using machine shop tools, hand tools, and rapid prototyping tools is a major plus.

Expected duties:

Engineering support

- Manage interactions with outside fabrication shops

- Request quotes and place orders

- Track order status

- manage deliveries

- Maintain fabrication lab

- Track and order consumable supplies

- Maintain lab space

- keep space clean and organized

- monitor users

- Assembly of items (with guidance) designed by the automation team

- mechanical assembly

- light electrical assembly with some soldering.

- Experience configuring Mac and Windows computers

Fabrication Support

- Basic Machining

- Proficient at operating manual machine shop tools

- Bridgeport Mill

- Metal Late

- Vertical and Horizontal Bandsaws

- Table Saw

- Hand tools

- Capable of creating simple turned and machined aluminum and plastic parts from engineering drawings

- Rapid Prototyping

- Experience using standard rapid prototyping tools

- FDM type 3D Printer

- Laser Cutter

- Water jet cutter

- Experience with 2D (e.g. AutoCad) and 3D modeling programs (e.g. SolidWorks, Creo, … NX (preferred))
