Ocean Associates, Inc. (OAI) is seeking a Marine Mechanic to provide support on contract to the NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service Pt. Adams Research Station in Hammond, Oregon. OAI provides personnel support services to government and industry clients for marine fisheries and protected species. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide safe, efficient operations for research efforts by maintaining and supporting research vessels and equipment to a high standard. The research station owns and operates 20 research vessels ranging from 8 to 41ft in length.

<b>Primary duties of the marine mechanic position include:</b>

<br>

<ul>

<li>Independently perform skilled work for minor maintenance and repair of marine engines, machinery, hydraulic equipment, electrical components, and other related equipment. This includes conducting preventative maintenance and assisting with the fabrication of original work.</li>

<li>Operate hand and power tools associated with the maintenance and repair of vessels and related equipment.</li>

<li>Work in a team-oriented, physically demanding shop and field environment where safety is priority.</li>

<li>Maintain accurate written and electronic records of all vessel maintenance completed, including cost estimates.</li>

</ul>

<b>Work Site and Work Hours:</b>

<br>

The primary duty station is located at the Point Adams research station NOAA shop in Hammond, Oregon. During sampling operations, the duty station may periodically change dependent on project needs. Other work sites include Tongue Point, Kerry West marina in Westport, OR, and NOAA’s Jones Beach sampling station near Clatskanie, OR. This position may be required to alter work hours to accommodate vessel repairs and emergencies.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week).

<b>Required education and experience:</b>

<br>

<ul>

<li>Minimum 3 years of experience in skills necessary to perform the primary duties of this position. </li>

<li>Valid Driver’s License </li>

</ul>

<b>Preferred, but not required, education and experience:</b>

<br>

<ul>

<li>USCG masters license (OUPV or greater)</li>

<li>Commercial driver’s license (CDL)</li>

<li>ABYC certifications in electrical, corrosion, and/or systems </li>

<li>OSHA training</li>

<li>Diesel engine mechanic certifications</li>

<li>Gasoline outboard engine certification</li>

</ul>
