The Emergency Department Director maintains responsibility and accountability for nursing operations within the Emergency Department. In collaboration with the VP, Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer, plans, organizes, directs, implements, and evaluates nursing service delivery. Assures coordination of patient care services across the continuum. Establishes an interdisciplinary approach to program and care planning. Works with the VP, Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer to realize the mission and vision of nursing in the organization. Formulates and implements policies, procedures, guidelines and standards in compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies. He/she will develop and communicate strategic and operational plans and policies consistent with the hospital’s mission, vision and values. He/she is responsible for upholding the standards of nursing practice and implementing cost effective programs to ensure that the highest level of safety and quality patient care is being delivered. He/she is a clinically competent, registered, professional nurse who demonstrates expertise in the care and treatment of the emergency patient.
Education: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. BSN required. MSN preferred. BSN requirement may be substituted for additional years of significant clinical experience.
Experience: Three to five years related clinical experience. Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience.
Licenseure: Current licensure to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Maryland or must be eligible to obtain a license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Maryland.
